why is my engine wet on top?
I'm not sure what it is or where it's coming from, but my something is blowing around pretty good in my engine bay. The underside of my hood gets black and wet, as well as my valve cover. The sides of my head are wet in some places, too, but I think it's just running down from the top. Almost seems more like coolant than oil, but it's definitely black. Where could it be coming from that it's all over both my hood and the top of my engine? I dunno if it matters, but I've got a 90 LS swap in my 91 CRX. I know I burn a quart of oil in about 2000 miles, and I'm losing coolant very slowly, but I never have any drips under my car when it's been parked for a while. Also, I've tried to watch it run, even revving pretty good, and I can't see anyting coming out from anywhere.
I'll see if I can't still take some pics on my busted camera card.

Check the rubber gaskets that go under the bolts that hold the valve cover on...should be a rubber piece under a metal lid and a nut that goes over both of those. When I redid my head I forgot to use those gaskets and had the same problem...oil was squirting everywhere whenever I accelerated.

Be kinda hard to sling the grease all way up to the hood, wouldn't it?
Have you been losing oil, coolant, power steering fluid, brake fluid?
EDIT: Ok I reread your original post, sounds like you could have a pinhole in a coolant hose maybe. Then it wouldn't spray out until it was hot/pressurized.
You could try and fasten a thin sheet of cardboard to the bottom of your hood before you head out and that might help you localize where it is coming from.

A hole in a axle boot will spray grease EVERYWHERE. Although it is obvious that it is grease by the thickness. You probably have a hole or a crack in a coolant line, or its not seated properly.
