Default OBD Questions

From what I understand the 96 and up got OBD2, and then in 2000 there was OBD2 ver.2. What I want to know is, was there any performance disadvantage with the 00-01 GS and GSR motors because of OBD2 ver.2? I know that there was something different with the emissions equipment for the 00-01 GSR, and that the headers were different from the 94-99. How about the GS? Please clarify this for me, thanks!

I have a 00 GSR. See my sig. below for mods and power. I have seen other GSR make less power than mine, but have not seen many make more, with the SIMILAR mods of course. I think the whole OBD deal has been blown out of proportion by some people. Probably someone saw a stock OBD 2 GSR make little power and came to this conclusion. The thing is not every engine is the same. Maybe that GSR was a weak one and had nothing odo with being OBD 2. I have also seen stock OBD 2 GSR's make 149 whp.

its just the tuning and all the emissions bull crap.
obd1 isnt as sensative as obd2
so you wont see as much check engine lights as the obd2 ecu

Bottom line the 94 to 95 and even the 96 and 97 respond to mods better and produce better stock figures, they are less restrictive.

Or even go here you'll find several dyno plots proving this theory to be correct.
And i consider it a theory this far, once i get my mods straight and have my **** dynoed i will do a baseline with obd11 and next run with obd1 to see it for my own eyes.

Basically, OBDII has more emmisions restrictions than OBDI. I have a 00' B18C1 in my eg and it's OBDII.

I have YET to see any dyno sheets, however, when switching an OBDII to OBDI make any extra horsepower. Show me a few of these, and then I'll be convinced to blow money on the ECU and adapter.

It won't make a huge difference, but it will run a little better, check the sites I've listed above and read the dyno charts, the 1st one has a test of 2 years with the same exact mods and shows about a 10 hp difference, and at the integra dyno center you can read the obd11 debate on the lower half of the page, the 96 and 97's aren't that bad they run good, however the 98+ ecu program was revised and has shown even in stock for they produce 10 to 15 hp less, check the links and make your descision from those plots.

I completely understand what you are saying. What I'm saying is that I have NEVER seen ANY hp gains via dyno from simply swapping out a GSR's OBD2 to OBD1. Everyone always talks about it, but no one appears to have any first hand dyno time experience on JUST swapping the ECU out and picking up gains. I've heard people that have done it that *thought* it did better, but had no proof.

The best benefit that you will encounter is the ability to tune your ecu...OBDII has chips that are one burn chips, OBDIIv2 has chips that you can't purchase to burn...however OBDI has EPROM chips that allow you to reprogram them an infinate amount of times. OBDI allows you to use the Hondata system, which has numerous benefits. OBDIIv2 has a Crank FLuctuation Sensor, which on cars with TODA B, or C cams will throw a CEL 71-74. There are a lot of other benifits, but at the moment I cannot tell you what they are off of the top of my head.

For tunability I give my vote to OBDI, though at the moment I have an A'PEXi PowerFC which plugs into the OBDIIv1 plugs.
