Default difference between obd2 and obd1 distributor

What is the difference between an obd2 or obd1 distrubutor? How do you find out which one you need?

Also is there a difference between the different b-series motors available?

I'm pretty sure the electrical connectors are different.

Here's an excerpt from discussion on this over at T-I.net

GSR/ITR cannot have LS and LS cannot have GSR/ITR.

if the car is OBD 1 (94-95) It cannot have a OBD2 (96-01) distributor for that same engine model.

I am not sure if an OBD2a (96-99) GSR is different than an OBD2b (00-01) GSR with the revision of the OBD 2 system. Someone else has to clarify that.

B18B1 for OBD 1 interchangable: 94 LS can swap with 95 LS

B18B1 for OBD 2 interchangable: any year 96 to 99 LS can swap with reach other within those years.

B18C1 for OBD 1 interchangable:94 GSR can swap with 95 GSR

Check on OBD2 GSR swapability.: Not sure if OBD2a can swap with OBD2b for GSR only.

B18C5 OBD 2 interchangable: 97-01 ITR can swap with each other within those years.

obd1-2 are the same; just wiring.
obd 0 is not compatible with the rest.
pulse reading is different, obd1 reads more pulses per revolution
