ACT vs Exedy
Of late I've been having some issues with my stock clutch, and now I'm thinking of replacing it within a few months. I've heard mixed opinions about both the ACT and Exedy clutches. I've heard that exedy is close to stock, which is good, but I'm leaning toward ACT in away. Has anyone driven in a car with either clutch?
thanks

It depends on which model you are interested in for each brand....Exedy makes lots of stock clutches, but they also make clutches that are not just stock replacements. Exedy also manufactures under the name Daiken. If you clarify which model, you'll probably get more feedback.....
i've had two different ACT clutches, both on mazdas. i've been very pleased with them. the HD versions of the ACT are very good for moderate power increases, the (ex)xtreme version is very heavy, though you get accustomed to it.
my HD was installed on a 323 GTX i used to own. it was a little modified, but definitley producing a lot more power than stock. the miata i have now is an extreme. it engages close from the floor, and a bit suddenly. that clutch held 14-15 psi (~225 rwhp) with no trouble whatsoever.

I've got the ACT Extreme Duty clutch with their street disk and am very happy with it. Yes, it is heavier than stock, but not obnoxiously so, although it would be a serious pain if you were in stop and go traffic for long. It grabs pretty quick too, but again not bad. I like that aspect of it much better than the stock clutch, but it does take some getting used to.
i have exedy stage 2 and it is a great, it is nothin like the stock clutch and it defently makes a difference, i never had a act but i havent had any complants about my exedy. but the one thing is that it chatters alot at low rpm but other wise great clutch

I was going to ask the same question, but I know that Exedy makes racing clutchs too. I had Exedy clutch in my 90 honda civic w/ b18a moter and it was good, the factory exedy clutch pick up on high end, but it still grabs very well. But now I have a Type S and I also have been having trouble with my clutch and wanted to upgrade. Which will be better for a Type S?

i also plan on boost so a stage two was worth it.

Go Competition Clutches i have it and it's the truth. YOu might not be looking for a stage 4 like i have, but after a while you get used to it and you don't even notice how agressive it is. If your not used to performance clutches then the first week wil be hell, but after thta smooth sailing.

You can't really compare the two. The Organic is a step up from the OEM clutch, and the Heavy Duty is more compariable and better (IMO) to the Exedy Cerametallic clutches.
We have both.
Hope that helps.

Daikin Industries makes the stock clutch. Exedy is their performance line. ACT, Clutchmasters, etc. use most of Daikin's designs and products. Stage 1 organic is usually a 30% increase over stock (varies with application). I would rather go hyper single or thick cerametallic.
Exedy

Stock one can last a LONG time if you don't abuse it. I've seen Hondas with 110k miles on their stock clutch with slight slippage. Aftermarket clutches do wear quicker though. Higher the stage, higher the amount of wear as mileage increases on the pressure plate.
