Default b18c5 on the highway?

Well I'm really considering a C5 for my daily driver. The biggest concern to me is the RPMs I will be at on the freeway due to the gears... at what RPM do you guys with C5's sit at about 80-85 mph?

I do a lot of highway driving for work, and have no problems putting the miles on the motor, but I dont want to cause problems with the sustained RPMs...

Keep in mind that the C5 (and the other DOHC VTEC motors) is not your average motor. It is made for sustained high revs. Just keep that engine maintained, use good oil, and it will last.

I drove my built LSVTEC from AZ to NC, Crusing at about 4400 RPM / 70mph

Oh, I've got the same B16 1st gen tranny probably, but I plan on putting an LS 5th gear in it.. might be a good idea for you...

i think he may be more concerned with gas mileage?? if thats the case i would go with a ls 5th.

personally when im highway cruising i could care less about keeping the car in powerband etc. i just want good fuel economy. the gsr is not much better, i think mine does about 4k-4500rpm at 80mph. but i usually cruise closer to 100mph. so mine sits around 5krpm.

My B18C5 CRX (1G B16A transmission) does GREAT on gas (32+MPG).

must be nice. i can barely get 350km to a tank of gas, which is about 40litres.

oh and a correction. my gsr is actually 4400rpm at 80mph(i think, its 140km/h, so 80mph is prety close to that)

What kind of setup do you have? That sounds HORRIBLE. So bad that something MUST be wrong.

dont mean to invade on the thread. but since u asked.

its a 99gsr in a civic dx.
-11.5/1 cr pistons
-skunk IM
-dc header
-310cc injectors
-255lph fuel pump
-p&p head
-crower stage2 cams
-all tuned on a hondata s200.
think thats the most of it. but that should explain the shitty fuel mileage. i had hoped i could get a little more from this set up. and thats with conservative driving as well. i think my worst was about 315km to the tank. i was runnin in vtec alot, autocrossin and what not.
