Default is it a good idea or is it even worth it to turbo charge a b16 with a type r head?

I got a b16 sir2 block and ive been told that it would be stupid to put a type r head on it with new cams gears everything basicly upgraded and having a type r tranny then turbo charging it. Is it worth it or is it stupid?

Well its maybe not "ideal" but its not stupid.

Either setup will work fine for turbo if you have the proper tuning and hardware to maintain it.

It wouldnt be a GREAT idea to swap the heads, the heads are very simular and wouldnt yeild to much of a gain since your going to cram air into it anyway via a turbo.

It's only stupid from the point that the B16 head is the same head as a Type R head minus a little porting and the obvious cam/valvetrain. So there is little reason to justify changing it. Just make whatever changes you want (if any) to your existing head. The Type R tranny (USDM) is the exact same tranny as the B16 tranny (gear ratios) A JDM Type R tranny has a slightly lower final drive ratio and a limited slip diff in it, so if you're going to put a Type R tranny in, go with a JDM one or stick with the B16 one you have and install a Phantom Grip unit or LSD into it. Going turbo on that engine will be fine.

ok then if its not realy worth it to put a type r head on a b16 would it be worth it to just put a type r motor in my car or would it be better to just get the stock b16 head and change everything in it then turbo charge it.

Only you can decide if putting a Type R motor in the car is worth it to you...it depends on the ultimate direction you want to go with your car. If boost is where you want to go you might as well stay with the B16 since turboing the Type R isn't as popular because of it's higher compression. A stock B16 head is just fine to go turbo with, I'm not sure I understand your desire to "change everything" in it though.

man...forget your buddies....a fast car is a fast car no matter what's in it for an engine and that shuts people up. Seriously you need to determine whats most important for you and your car and it's intended use before you start dropping money. Spend some time on here doing searches for information and learn about various things so you'll be better educated on what you want and what you can afford.
