Default Burning oil. Need some guidance.

I have a 92 Civic Si with the stock D16. It has not been running right for some time. Now, it seems to be burning a bit of oil. It definitely smells like it is buring oil at all times. It seems to be worse at higher revs. It doesn't seem to smoke much on start up. I am wondering if it is more likely a problem with the piston rings or something in the cylinder head. Does anyone have a recommendation on how I could figure out what the problem is without completely tearing the engine down? Any help figuring this out would be greatly appreciated.

open your oil cap and take a look if it looks milky and light brown in there your head gaskets getting ready to crap out on you. if so you will need to fix. do you notice white smoke from your exhaust? or are you loosing oil and need to add oil? if its the latter condition try some 10 or 5w 60.

get a good tech. to do a leakdown and compression test
a backyard mech. can do those tests
but they wouldn't know what to look for if the readings are off
