Default Oil missing?

Well I have a very unique case so I can't seem to find any information that can help me. I have a 1997 Integra B18b1/B16A2 cylinder head. My engine looks like I have no oil whatsoever according to my dipstick, it looks completely dry. I have no oil leaks anywhere which would lead me to believe that I'm burning oil but my exhaust doesn't show any sign of it burning oil, no unusual smoke color. I have a test pipe but I wouldn't think that would cause it to not show any smoke color. My Vtec also engages fine.. I have no clue what could cause this. Anyone?

How long did it take since your last oil change to get to this point? It's possible to be burning oil without huge plumes of smoke coming out, as engines age they eventually develop some blow by which can burn oil so slowly you can't see any smoke.

just try again in a few hours let it settle on a flat surface even, if need be ad a qt, if there really was no oil you'd be in here regarding a spun bearing.

I changed my oil on June. I've seen engines leaking a ton of oil due to bad gaskets but till have a tiny amount of oil on it's dipstick. I can add more oil and have it show up on the dipstick but it will probably be gone the following week, either it must be a HUGE leak/burning oil but I still see no evidence of it. I'll check in the morning before starting the car up.

Sounds like you're making a lot of assumptions after checking your dipstick once. Its very common for honduhs to use a quart of oil every few thousand miles.

If it I did check the dipstick just "one" time, I wouldn't be making a thread about, now would I? I just want to know where my oil is going to, if it's consuming oil then I'd like to know that.

do a compresion and leak down test to get a better idea. Its not uncommon to burn oil. Its a hit or miss imo. I have a fresh C5 crate engine brand new assembled basically 0 miles not a "rebuilt engine" and after about 5,000 miles it burns a quart every 2-3k depending how much i engage vtec and what not.

Hey man, what the hell are you talking about?

Hit or miss? What does that even mean?

1 QUART every 2-3k on a brand new motor? **** no that is not normal by any stretch.

Means some engines burn more than others period! new rebuilt or used, depending on your driving habits ~ its not a mystery that using vtec will cause the engine to consume more oil. If i stay out of vtec it will consume much less oil. I had two brand new crate engines first one burned much less than the second.

1qt is almost normal with B series in my experience.

Of course other factors will play a role such as damaged piston rings and leaking valve seals causing blow by.

I've done a compression test about 2 months ago and my I was getting around 180-195psi on all 4 cylinders with the stock 9.2:1 pistons which seems normal. I don't think it will necessarily tell me if I'm leaking oil through the oil rings since the compression test is only determining the compression ring, ya know? I remember adding oil back in July since I noticed it looked dry. I added just a tiny amount and it was visible on the mid point of the dipstick. This time, I added 1.5 quarts of oil and it's at the lower dot of the dipstick. I would assume it's burning oil and would like to believe "engaging VTEC will cause it to burn oil" but that logic doesn't fit with my scenario since I see no clouds of smoke coming out my tailpipe.

Keep in mind that non vtec engines take almost a quart less than their vtec counterparts.

I have a 96 dx civic with a long geared D series. Its my daily driver. It burns oil like CRAZY!!!! it can go through 2 qts in less than 2000 miles. It has 0 smoke out the tail pipe! 0 not one bit of smoke comes out at any given rpm.

Coming back to this topic and still haven't resolved my issue. I assumed it was burning oil but when I pulled out the spark plugs, they had no signs of it burning in the combustion chamber. I fixed every oil leak that I've found and I've even installed an oil catch can to reduce blow-by pressure being built in the engine. Car runs around 18-20psi of oil at idle, 70psi at 3K rpms, and 80psi at 5K and above. Oil pressure drops to 10-12psi at idle after hitting VTEC but the oil pressure stays at 80psi while hitting VTEC, no sudden drop like it does at idle. I'm stumpted.

Try checking the oil in the morning when the engine has cooled down all the way and all the oil has settled and make sure it's on a flat surface to see the oil level. You might have your LS vtec kit routed wrong causing oil to burn in the engine. Also try a thicker oil like 5w30 and no synthetic. Try the chevron 5w30 it will burn less with that oil. I was using 10w30 mobil 1 synthetic always and burning oil quick in vtec but switched to the cheap chevron oil at walmart 5w30 cause i was broke lol and to my surprise it consumes much less. With 5w30 non synthetic oil.

I used a Golden Eagle LS/V kit, oil filter sandwich plate and line going to the cylinder head to feed the VTEC solenoid. I was going by the owners manual to check the oil level (Which was to wait 2 minutes after the engine was off and then check) which would always seem to be low. I did that earlier today and the oil was down by the middle of dipstick. I checked again about an hour ago once the engine was "cool" and it was at the top of the dipstick. Thanks for the tip but let's hope it actually stays at that level.
