Default Beginning either LSVTEC or CRVTEC

hey guys, i know there's alot of these posts around this section right now but I just wanted to make my own thread for research and information.

This will be my first engine build and I will do everything right. Plus, I have a few skilled honda buddies watchin over my shoulders, oh and you guys also

I know that the B18a/b block is most popular for these frankenstein swaps but the b20 yields more torque. Is there something better about the B18 blocks that everyone favors over the b20?

My plans for the car are daily driving and occasional road race and auto crossing. Im a pretty much laid back driver on the street so i could care less setting up for drag.

So here's my idea for now. I still consider myself to be a n00b because of many things ive yet to learn but im gettin there.

I do plan on getting the GOLDEN EAGLE FULL VTEC CONVERSION KIT to make this easier.

This will all be going in my 94 CX

B18b block
upgraded rods and pistons
balance the crank

SI or GSR head with upgraded internals.
which cam would be better? i was opting for the OEM ITR or CTR or should I go for the TODAs?

i maybe get Skunk2 valves, valve springs and retainers. should the valves be oversized or not?

ITR Water pump
ITR Oil pump

any alternator from a B-series would work?

okay ill be sure to update this thread with my progress and pictures!!

I think more people go with the LS block because they are alot easier to find. if you are going LS VTEC, just get some good rod bolts and headbolts( ie ARP AEBS), Golden Eagle kit, Vtec oil pump (the ITR you were going with will be just fine) new bearings and seals and some VTEC pistons, then have it balanced. That valvetrain you were going to use is good (skunk2) and if you are going to replace the valves, I would go with soemthing like Ferrea. Alot of people go with them and they seem to be really good. I would go with the CTR cams or stage 1 Skunk2 if you dont want something too agressive, if you want more power go with something like the JUN or Toda cams and you'll be good . sounds like a good setup to me

ive got a b20 vtec 12.5:1 comp. and it makes great power just cant rev that high on stock sleeves and rods (keep it at 7000rpm), but if you go aftermarket then 9000 rpm wouldnt be a problem. also to evade the poor r/s ratio you could get a gsr crank for road racing, this is the route ill be going this winter
good luck
