I just got my nice motegi 17" wheels and falken 512 tires. On the tire they have a treadwear of 360. So is that short, average, long tread wear? Im still new on some of this stuff. After driving them for a few days they have some hella grip. Im just hoping they dont wear out too quick.....

 

honestly it means nothing you can only compare it to other tires built by the same company, most of the numbers are just pulled out of the air

 

i believe you are right on that, worked at a tire shop but its been a while

the 360 though i believe is a DOT standard though and would be hella good traction, michelin for example rates their tires out of ten and those comparisons don't mean **** to another brand

take a look at the sticker but rule of thumb is Falken is a good tire, will be puttin em on mine one day

*always go by your speed rating, my accord has s rated tires (should be h and the previous owner was a dumbass, wrong size too) and i can't handle for **** right now

 

I believe mine are Z rated but they have so much grip like they wont last me for more than a few months. Dont they have like a 50,000 mile warranty on them where if they wear out before then they'll replace it for free?

and 50k miles on Z rated tires?!? I doubt it, what brand? I don't think I've ever seen more thank like 25k on V rated, that'd be a major first. I'm trying to remember the website, like tirewarehouse.com or something. They have excellent comparisons and customer reviews of hundreds of tires.

 

think of it this way, 500 is way hard, 360 is vaguely soft, 280 (Kumho 712, Proxes T1-S) soft, 220 (Pilot sport) even stickier, 140 (Yoko Advan, you'd better be rich cause you'll be swapping them yearly), <100 is autocross range

but to better understand all this, and especially UTQG as mentioned, go to the http://www.tirerack.com and do some reading, they have excellent reference materials.

Treadwear rating of 100 = 20,000 miles of treadwear under "IDEAL" conditions - i.e. - perfect alignment, perfectly smooth roads, no potholes, or frost heaves, etc..... typically is used as a guide only.

Traction Rating of "AA" or "A" or "B" means 'wet braking' capabilites on a test track environment (controlled "perfect" conditions again) i.e. skidpad or test course, etc.... not your typical roads

Temperature "A" is the tires ability to resist internal temperature build up in the tire carcass itself.

Treadwear ratings of higher numbers typically equate to longer lasting compounds, lower numbers denote softer compounds, but due to advances in tread design, technology in silica compounds (there is very little rubber in passenger tires) tires last a lot longer under worse conditions than in the past.
