Proper way of changing mantran oil/fluid?
Im planning on buying some new trans fluid (syncromesh/pennzoil stuff) and was wondering the proper way to do it. Do I need an impact wrench to get the tranny drain plug out?
You can tilt the car towards the passenger side, open the drain plug with 1/4 socket wrench, drain until little/nothing runs out of the drain hole. Close the drain hole and proceed to the fill hole near the passenger side axle. From the three transmissions I've worked on, this baby can be a bit of a pain to open so don't give up and try not to round it.
Afterwards, run a funnel and some tubing into the hole and add the new fluid until it begins to run out of the fill hole. Then go ahead and close the fill hole(not too tight, or it'll be a pain next time) and your pretty much done.
Both the drain bolt and the fill bolt have crush washers on them, the correct way requires you to replace them, the ghetto(my) way just reuses them. Try not to lose them, if you do the bolts might leak oil.
