Default Right speaker works; Left is really faded

I have a 1990 STD Civic hatchback with a Pioneer tape deck. When I turn the radio on/play tapes, the right speaker comes in loud and clear, but the left speaker is really faded - if you put your ear to it, you can hear some music. I checked the wires in the back of this speaker - they all seem connected and one is frayed. How would I fix this?

you would be best off replacing it... that speaker is probably putting stress on your deck aswell...

swap the speakers left for right.

If the problem moves to the other side of the car, the speakers are bad. If it stays on the left side of the car, it's the headunit.

Repair the speaker wire, as that could be the problem as well.

If you want, you can also take the left speaker out, hook it up to a home audio system - if it plays fine, then you know the problem is in the headunit or the wiring, not the speaker....

Great - thanks for the advice. Another question: what's the headunit?

The head unit is your tape deck.

I would be very careful when doing this though. dont turn it up too loud. i blew one of the channels on my Classe amp when playing around with my type X's.

on the plus side they sounded beautiful getting 360W
