Depends. If you want top end, go for an LS tranny. If you want faster acceleration, go for a B16 or an ITR. They are both geared almost exactly the same.
i think you should go b16...your starts will always pull quicker....to me...i pulled a 15.4 down to a 15.2 with a b16 tranny on my ls...does impressive 60fts on your timeslip!...2.116 for my 60ft...almost a 2.0 60ft....
in my old ls tranny i pulled off a 2.3 60fts....thats my experience....

No. That is the oldest myth there is. Shorter gears mean better accleration. But too short is also bad. Don't spread false info.

if you are going forced induction use a LS tranny, longer gears are good for spool up, if staying n/a b16 tranny or gsr or if lucky type r tranny. shorter gears
i got a b16 in my ls, it picks up quick as hell. I pull on every 1 know till the end of third. But if ur boosting than dont get it, but if ur boosting a b16 motor, then that would b best. Im build a b16 4 turbo so thats why i got the tranny, but fun 2 drive the ls around with it.

That is wrong. The whole longer gears myth is bullshit. Shorter gears means better accleration. But the gears can be too short too, so you would always be shifting. GSR tranny is really good for boost. The only way I can see keeping the ls tranny, is if you have a setup like Cheesefrog, making over 400hp. The the ls would be ideal because gsr, etc. would just spin most gears with no traction.

yes, this is a good solution. Even a gsr tranny (which has longer gears than the b16) will be far ahead of an LS tranny in acceleration as well. If you are very concerned about having to deal with high RPMs while cruising on the highway or fuel economy, then get a b16/itr and put in an LS final drive like DA9Rintegra said.

yeah, i kinda flipped out there, for a minute. i just get so sick of people saying, "get an LS tranny and be in boost longer, or spool up better." unless you're running enough boost to beat a viper, such as cheezefrog, there are better things to do about traction than using an LS tranny.

As an owner of an LS, GSR, and ITR tranny, I agree.

Whatever tranny you go with is up to you, the only thing I can suggest is that you ditch the LS tranny because the gears are not wwhat you want. Even if you go with the gsr and decide to stay n/a, you can always add a different FD. I say you cant go wrong with the gsr tranny.
