what oil do i use in 5 speed manual?
It says in the owners manual to use normal 10w-30 motor oil. Is that true? Also does the tranny share oil with the diff like in most front drive manuals? I know that was the cas in my '87 corolla but it used 80w-90 oil. WTF is goin' on here.

10w-30 motor oil is fine (per 3 local dealers in my area). I think 1996 and earlier calls for motor oil per owners manual. Only in 1997 and later when they started making a big fuzz about the Honda MTF.

From the mouth of my friend, also a Honda Tech: Use Honda MTF.
Oh well, your choice.

my buddy chris is the honda tech and i listen to his words of wisdom and my car runs just fine....use 5w-30....in your honda.......and if you can afford it...honda manual transmission fluid
FROM THE MOUTH OF A HONDA TECH" USE 5W-30"
10W30 or 10W40
it say's so in the helms manual.............personally i liked 10W40 Quaker State the best of all oils i have ever tried in the tranny.......i recently switched to Honda MTF and noticed no diffrence between the two.....
5W30 is way to thin for the tranny......it will get really "crunchy" when shifting when the tranny gets hot.

Use ONLY HONDA MTF. I have heard something about using a GM fluid for smoother shifts, but I cant verify this. Honda MTF 4.40 a quart, you need 3 quarts. Actaully 2.3 go in.

I'm confused????? I always thought transmission fluid and motor oil were different?? Aren't they?? Or can the MTF go in place of the OIL also?? I have an automatic so I dunno.. just confused..
for the manual transmission you can use either 10W30, 10W40 or Honda MTF (MTF=Manual Transmission Fluid)
for the automatic transmission you HAVE to use Dextron III/Mercon automatic transmission fluid. dont use anything else other than that.......i think honda sell's their own brand of automatic fluid but i belive it's the same as any other ATF out there.......

I was always a Honda Oem Fluid man and my transmission always shifted kinda rough. Then I heard from some members here to try the GM Sychromesh Manual fluid. I couldn't believe using a GM fluid on Acura would do anything but make it worse. But decided to give it try knowing that if it doesn't help I can always switch back. Well after switching to the Gm Sychromesh, I can tell you, shifting is improved because its smoother. I noticed the biggest difference in my first gear. Where before, it would occasionally be hard to get in, now its no more.
I can't promise there would be an improvement on every single Integra but I know it helped with mine.
Oh yea if you do decide to give it try there are different manual transmission fluid at the Gm dealer. They will ask for a part number. Use this one: part # is 1#12345349 Its about 9 dollar per a bottle.
