Default Already Searched: D16y8 and D16z6 Questions

I already search and couldn't find the information that I was looking for. I don't know if I search the right topic. But anyway, the questions that I have are. I'm building a y8 block with a z6 head. And am wondering, when buying forged pistons and rods. Will there be any kind of problem with the valve clearences? And do you use the z6 timing belt or the y8? Thanks

I don't think it matters, but why are you combining them?

Sometimes you pick up some blocks here and some heads there so you have to mix and match. I think a d16z6 belt might fit. What i did was buy one at a autopart store, when it didnt fit, I exchanged it. As long as I didnt get it dirty, they didnt have a problem with exchanging the belts.

Z6 probaby has more clearence then a Y8 head. Im just assuming so because of the more cc in the combustion chamber but i would ahve no idea. The d16Y8 would probably by the same thing has a d16z6 bottom end anyway if you were to change out the internals. (SAME CRANK).

Nice choice on the D16z6 head.

A big factor of a NA motor is airflow, the d16z6 head is a better choice then a y8 head to start out with. (Assuming your going NA because you want forge pistons and are concerned about the valve clearance?

Thanks for the replies.

To answer your questions. I decided to mix and match the two because I got a deal on a d16y8 block. And decided to just get a d16z6 head since im still obd1.

Reason why I want to go forged internals is because my whp goal is 300whp. Or close to that. And everyone knows that the only way to achieve that is with boost.

I was just a bit confused about things. I just wanted to do this build right. That's all.
