Default New Hondas come with XM but I want Sirius...

I tried searching for this, and no one seemed to bring this up, so here goes...

XM must have done some contract with hundreds of car companies, and Honda is one of them... now a lot of models (like the Accord) come with XM radio now. However I want Sirius, but I don't want a new head attached. I'd rather have a seamless conversion. I was curious to see if anyone has done this, and how much work would have to go into doing this change. I know the decoder for XM radio would probably have to be changed with a Sirius one, and the antenna would have to be changed, but can it be done without any visible changes?

But I wanted to know if it could be implemented in the Accord w/o a whole new head unit, and use the XM button as the sirius button. I basically want to have everything look the same on the outside and still use the stock Honda head, but have Sirius service.

Ok, but I was looking for a little bit more specific answer than "yes, it's possible." Exactly how much more would this cost?

YESSSS! it's possible. Just interface a Sirius receiver through the FM antenna or aux. input and you're done.

That's it? Do you know this from experience?

I'm not 100% sure yet if I would rather have sirius, but so far I'm leaning towards it because all of its stations are commercial free, not just most of them. Also, Sirius has the option of lifetime membership (exp. end of 2004), which I think would be better for me instead of paying month to month.

I've also heard that Sirius has actual live DJs on their stations and it's not just preprogrammed.

But then again I'm also thinking about dumping the entire idea because Satellite radio still isn't near CD quality/mp3 high bitrate quality. In that case, I think i'll try to find a way to seamlessly install a mp3 player of some sort so it hooks up in the glove compartment.

I think it would be do-able feeding the Sirius receiver through an aux input (if it has one) or maybe even through the CD changer input (not too sure about that one.) I don't think you would be able to use the XM button on the radio though.

Terk is making adaptors so that anyone can decide between sirius or xm, give it a little more time and it can be like factory...

xm has two year contracts that give a decent discount (even longer for deeper discounts)

XM has live dj's, as well as all of their music channels are commercial free...

do a little more research, visit their websites, the only thing I have seen to make sirius more desireable has been their sport hook-up. I've sold both XM and sirius, and choose to have XM in my car, but I also wouldn't listen to a sports game while in my car....

It is completely possible through an aux input, or fm modulator....
the "brain" of the xm would need changed, and the ant. as well, the ant. you can mount on your rear deck (maybe even under the dash - it will work through plastic of dashboards, from experience with an acura NSX, and RL, ford f-150, dodge quadcab, and silverado) so it can be hidden

What about the song info/ text that comes on the screen? Can that still appear on the honda unit or do i have to get the sirius one to make it work? I really don't want to have an additional one sticking out.

don't forget, XM picked up select college games... every saturday it seems they play 1 Big 10 game, which works for me being a PSU fan (though they suck this year... and last......)

But even if you switch to Sirius, you should be able to use the factory XM one... you might have to remove the plastic clip around the metal plug to get it into the Sirius unit (no biggy typically), but I've mixed and matched the two antennas before without any major difference in reception.

depends on how long you want to wait, they are making the interfaces, they just haven't all shipped yet... the main unit is being made by Terk, and the adaptors either by them or blitzsafe, I can't remember exactly

Foz is correct...Terk is making the recievers and antennas etc anmd with bitzsafe
making adaptors. My advice is wait...CES is just around the corner and from what
I was informed of..it will be possible to choose you service and plug and play
the gear ( ie XM capable radio...using Sirius programing)

Just wait.

CES is like a universal release date for mobile electronics, the announced the terk "xm direct" last year and some dealers are still waiting for parts to be shipped, just enjoy the xm for now, you can prepay as many months as you want... you'll already have the equipment, and when the sirius gear is ready you can switch over....
