Default unburnt fuel

for my smog test i was over the max by a bit for the HC which is unburnt fuel correct??? so since i have fuel that isnt being combusted i am assuming 1) im running too high octane (91...sad) and 2) for some reason the compression is low because with 10.6 compression 91 should be fully combusting correct???

so for now i am running 89 (no knock cel or pinging yet) which i am hoping will take care of the HC level for the smog test, and once that is through i can look into it further as to what is causing the lost in compression, no bubbles in the rad so i am assuming head gasket is ok and when i got the motor comp #'s were 240 across (some carbon build up im guessing)

so is my assumption correct that 89 should solve the HC problem and also what are some guesses as to the 91 not fully combusting??? (need valve adj???)

thanks

spark plugs may be old and suck....not getting enough air to combust, bad ignition....i dunno.

check your plugs, and air filter is a great idea too.

I was about to buy this one Lude and the problem it had was it had unburnt fuel which ends up leaking down to the exhaust system and it burned out the cat. So it made the car not pass smog. At least thats what he told me. I just brought this up because if you have unburnt fuel, maybe your cat is startin to get fu#%ed up too? or is the person I was trying to buy the Lude from completely wrong?

Unburnt fuel I think could meen that you are bumping too much fuel also (I think) or not enough air. I would check your intake out. Sounds like you may just have a vaccume leak. I can't say for sure but it is worth a shot. MAN I HATE EMMISSIONS!
