Default Piston Choice...ls/vtec

I'm rebuilding my itr motor and have decided to go ls/vtec w/itr head. I'll be running sk2 valves, springs, retainers, stg II cams. I'm still trying to decide about the bottom end. I want a comp. ratio between 11:1 and 11:5:1, something streetable on 93 pump gas.

I thought about jdm itr pistons w/ itr rods, but wasn't sure about itr rods on ls crank. Will that be ok?

I'm also thinking about JE forged pistons with eagle rods. I'm not real sure which one's to go with. The SRP ones I have been told come in a 11:1, but the only JE's I've seen are 9:8 ish and then a big jump to 12:5:1.

The car will stay N/A and probalby won't see nitrous. Do I really need the forged items, or will stock be fine? Also which forged pistons should I go with? Money is an issue since I'm doing an "unexpected" rebuild while in college, but I also want tom make sure I'll be happy down the road. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

If you use the ITR rods then its really not a "true" lsvtec.
Also.. try using the P30 pistons... they make really nice power and are lighter then the R pistons I think.

What rods should I get. I've heard the ls rods cant handle the higher revs of an itr. If I get aftermarket rods that means aftermarket pistons correct?

I think the rods are a little longer for the LS, but it's not much. I don't care if it's a
"true" ls vtec, I just want something affordable that will meet my perfromance needs. It looks like itr rods and jdm itr pistons can be found for 300-400. Forged JE's and Eagle rods will be 700-800. That extra 400.00 would nearly pay for hondata, so I'm trying to decide which is more benificial.

yea the ls rods are longer because of the stroke of the motor

you dont need the forged JEs and Eagles. Just have the rods shotpeened and balanced. the itr pistons should yeild about a 11.3-.4 comp ratio. the skunk2 stage 2s will work just fine in that area.

So yea skip the forged pistons and rods and call up your local Hondata dealer

LS rods are shorter than ITR/GSR rods.
LS stroke is 89mm.
ITR/GSR stroke is 87.2mm.

ok as far as rods i have heard people taking them pretty high in hp numbers and rpms. but like people said need to get them shotpeend usually and also get the arp rod bolts prolly the most important thing on that. as for piston i would have to go with p30 piston. and no the itr rods wont work on a ls crank.

why arent u sticking with the itr crank and rods?

that is right the itr rods will not fit the ls crank if you are plaining to use that.
it will only work with a vtec crank. ls rods should be fine just use arp bolts and peen them.
