F'ing stupid thieves
Stupid stupid thieves. I traded my buddy my ITR for his 4Runner for the weekend so I could tow the race car. He wakes me up this morning on the phone asking me what my date of birth was? "What the hell are you talking about," I asked him. That's when he hands the phone to the cop that's standing with him, who tells me my car was broken into and my driver-side window is sitting in the drive way with glass all over the interior as well. My stereo is gone he informs me, and some CD's, and oddly enough, that's it. My Escort radar detector is still on the window mount, my shift ***, JDM SRS steering wheel, and any other Type-R/car **** etc..... is still there.
The thieves couldn't even manage to figure out how to open the trunk lid it appears, as they broke off the gas-door release lever, and popped the hood (but didn't appear to have even opened it). So it looks like they folded down the rear seats and climbed back to try and steal my sub in the trunk, but they were foiled by the ingenious way that I had the sub securely attached, with cheap little straps to the rear trunk brace. Duh.
So anyway, I have glass all over everything, a scratched up window frame and door, a missing Clarion MP3 head unit, and a bunch of missing CDR discs. It could be a lot, lot worse. The police told us that there were similar incidents of Honda's being broken into within a few blocks the same night, so it was probably just some stupid unskilled punks running around stealing stereos.
How did it happen, that these ignorant-*** thieves were able to get past the alarm system? My friend forgot to set it

Thats weird. When my friends car was broken into, they stole his head unit and CDs. They had the back seats down and some screws out but the subs and amp werent taken and his gas lever was snapped off.
thank goodn3ss its only the freakin stereo you know? As far as i am concerned th3 thieves had no idea what your caR is....so thats a plus for you, otherwise you'd be missing more then that stereo for sure. Glad to hear the situation wasn't any worse

i'd be pissed about that. anyway, even if it were armed, you'd need a backup battery or else.

**** thieves!!!! DIE!
They couldn't get my car so they stoled my amp but couldn't get the sub because of the rear trunk sway bar.
I know how you feel and you should feel really lucky.

thats what i was saying....you should be so lucky my friend.
heavy duty straps and locks are a must when having a system, even though i dont agree with subs and what not. either way, lucky lucky guy.

I'm glad it was only a few semi small things that could be replaced rather easy, But thieves like those should have their toes chopped off!
good luck on the repairs.

Damn Ben you had me worried your R got stolen! Your friends know better than to leave the R parked in the driveway overnight, especially with the alarm disabled. Towing the race car...did you already fix the hole in the block?

hey ben,
not sure which mp3 head unit you have but most new models have a security code along with the head unit. not sure if you looked into if your model has that. maybe not. that would be somewhat good, since it is a useless unit. and since you made a report of the theft.
all factory repair facilities will not work on any headunit unless a serial number of the radio is securely on the unit. atleast thats how its suppose to work. so if you also registered your unit with the factory warranty card and this chump tries to fix it or get the code from an authorized shop it will be logged in the manufacture records. which you can have the factory see if the unit has recent work/repair done. this is ofcoarse if the unit has that code, and if he is stupid enough to try and get the code.
just something to think about. long shot but you never know.

Thanks for the comments guys... I never recorded the serial number to the head unit, and it was never setup to require a code after being powered up I don't think. At least I don't remember having to put a code in when we moved it from my roommate's old Si to my car.
Jim- not fixed yet.. actually we are just replacing the bottom end all together. First it is going to the machine shop to get all nice and balanced. Ordering some ARP rod bolts, new bearings, rings, etc., and then hopefully have it all back together by the Halloween race at Hallett. You should join me!

Nah, going to stick with factory for now, give me more chances to rebuild later.

Yeah he knows, I still can't believe he didn't arm the alarm- but there's virtually no car theft around here, and I thought he was in a decent neighborhood. Learned my lesson though

for the thieve's being ignorant, they should've tried the door handle first if your buddy didn't set the alarm, the door's would've been unlocked. that'll save you some $
