Buddy Club Camshaft/ Cam Gear Adjustment/ Distributor adjustment
I have a question, that I am not sure has been asked before. I have a b16a with type r head, buddy club spec 3+ camshafts, omnipower valvetrain, spoon cam gears. My question is this, I advanced the intake camshaft to +2 degrees last night. I checked the distributor afterwards, and it was way off. Now, when you adjust cam gears (intake cam in particular), are you supposed to still line up ignition timing with the original timing marks, or does moving the intake camshaft change the timing, since the distributor is linked to that cam. Make sence? The reason I am asking is because when I started the engine up after adjusting the cam gear, and reved it, with the original timing settings, the engine stalled as it came back to idle..and it did not do that before. Then I advanced the timing really far, and it would rev, and come back to idle normally, but it seems way to far advanced. Very confussing. Any help would greatly be appriciated.
Good question. I'd like to know too. Since I am about a month or two away from dropping BC Spec IVs, BC cam gears and RM valvetrain in my JDM B16A1.
Moving the intake cam does change the timing. I believe its 2 degrees timing for every 1 degree on the intake cam.
If you move your intake gear you need to reset your base timming on the dist with a timming light, be sure to jump the service connector when doing this.
