Question on how subs were put in box.
My friend has a 2 10" subs in a box. One is facing out as usual but the other one is facing in. Does he just have a messed up system or is there a reason for this.
yeah, that **** sux ***.... its sounds like ****. tell him to turn them to where both magnets are unseen... it will sound better, he may need to reverse the speaker leads on one of them, depending on how they were hooked up...

where do people come up with this stuff...sheesh
The only difference it will make is that the volume of the box will change because there is not the motor of the sub in there displacing air. So long as both cones move in the same direction relative to the baffle at the same time then you will be fine.
Essentially all you have to do is wire one sub out of phase.
The only determinant of how this will sound will be the change in volume. Also, some subs will make some mechanical noises on the back side that is not detectable on the front, like minor lead slap - but this is not appliable for all subs.

So where's the sealed chamber portion of the box?

Exactly.. and most boxes aren't designed to compensate for the missing sub motor on the one side. If you built a box so the airspace on the one side minus the motor displacement, and the airspace of the side without the motor have the exact same air space, then the setup will sound pretty much as if the subs had both been mounted the same way.
