a lot of people seem to use garret t3/t04e's

i being one of them. i have like basically no turbo lag. spools a little too low sometimes..makes my bov go off and i lose my sleeper approach.

Last year I would have said T3/T4. Earlier this year it was SC61. Now it's all about the GT35R baby!

What are your HP goals?

The first thing to do is find out what your goals for hp and is this gonna be a daily driver or not.

Who cares what the popular one is? Go with what best suits you.

That's like saying people drive a red car....a t3/t4, there are tons of different combos taht you could have, different turbines, different compressors, different a/rs on the housings. You need to break it down.

When I build my honda, it's going to have a t3/t4e 50 trim compressor with a stage 3 turbine in a .63a/r housing.

i agree; but the thing is i bet 90% of FI turboed cars dont even have a turbo built for there setup. the mathematics behind it really helps!

Oh yea, forgot to add:

A little over a year ago, if you were SOHC, you were looking for a cheap Greddy kit cuz you didn't want to spend $3k on a B18c swap.

And can't forget the cheap Homemadeturbo guys with 14b's and T25's!

So the timeline is:

2 years ago: Drag kit T3/T4 .48 A/R cuz we don't want lag
1.5 years ago: SOHC Greddy turbo baby! Or T3/T4 0.63 A/R since we want top end now!
1 year ago: SC61 or T3/60-1!
Present: HKS GT35R or equivalent.

SC61 is a great turbo, I made 414 WHP on pump gas on my stock sleeve GSR with pistons and rods

Sure, everyone "bandwagons" the SC61, the T3/60-1, and the GT35R, but you can't deny that people are making big power with them, with fairly low boost levels, and the quickness of the GT35R's spool is insane.

Id say if you actually were to ask everyone what turbo they are running, id be willing to bet the garrett/precision 57 trim T3/t04e is by far the most common one out there for Honda's. Variant's of this turbo like the 50, 54, and 60 trim are out there but the 57 is definitly the most popular.

Next id say the 60-1 is the next most popular turbo. The SC61 was discovered here on honda-tech and made popular here on honda-tech, but the 60-1 has been the "next step" forever. You can find 60-1's on all kinds of engines ranging from Nissan's-Mustang's-DSM's-GM's-Honda's.

The GT35R will never be that popular due to it's price, but the SC61 is practically a strait to the point affordable gt35r. When I/Arturbo first started pushing the SC61's that is what I liked so much about it. (He was the first who brought precision to h-t, as well as the sc61, and I am the one who convinced many key people to switch it out for their 60-1's which then started the whole bandwagon swing)

For Honda's, id say the 57 trim t3/t04e is the most popular entry level turbo, and the sc61 is the most popular upgrade turbo. All for good reason.

No, it's still going to be here. I'm just going to buy a B18C1 and dump money into that when I have time to do so. Like, one pay check, one rod, ect.

Thanks everybody for the responses, my intention to know the preference is because I have been making affordable turbocharger kits for watercooled vw's for years, but I have a couple of friends that are insisting me into making a kit for them, again thanks for all the help

You don't really see many people posting setups with T3/60-1's on here anymore though, it's almost all a T3/TO4E 50/57/60 trim, an SC61, or they moved right on up to a T3/T67, which is quickly snowballing in popularity.

Given basically identical turbos, a T3/60-1 with a stage 3 exhaust wheel in a .63 A/R housing, and an SC61 with a TO4S comp housing and a stage 3 exhaust wheel in a .63 A/R housing, what do you think the difference in spool is going to be? These 2 turbos are compared all the time, but I've never seen a dyno test where somebody ran a 60-1, took it off, and ran an SC61 on the same car, or vice versa.

Yeh, you don't see the 60-1 too much anymore but guys who have been around for awhile are still running it. Lots of people run this who don't post on h-t and aren't familiar w/ the sc61. The best back to back comparison I have is when Hybrid901 switched over from the 60-1 hifi to the sc61. The sc61 flowed so much more air at the same pressure that he blew his motor the first night out because he didn't retune.
