i just want to confirm i can fit this setup with no problems with some people if its ok, (with ZC Dohc)
i plan on getting the mandrel piping kit for the crx from kteller (2.25"), along with a
magnaflow muffler (2.25" in/out), stock catalytic converter, and either an 18" resonator or even bigger with out any problems???
the reason i want that size resonator is cause i heard people say its nice and deep but quiet also since
i would like it to be pretty quiet at wide open throttle, cause i don't like the attention, i just want to keep up with
the morning commute, and punch it without having to be the loudest car with everyone looking at me and trying to
get on my tail
i was browsing through archives and someone with a 91 hatch w/ ZC described his setup like this:
"I'm running a Dynomax super turbo muffler with a 31 inch resonator. 2 1/4 piping. (stock cat)
This thing is silent at idle and low rpms, but doesn't even really get that loud at WOT.
Just a nice growl, but i really can't hear it over the intake."
and so if he can put a 31" resonator while still keeping his cat, then could'nt i just have an 18" or 22"?
i just don't understand why muffler shops say "its not gonna fit" or people say "its gonna be tight", cause
reading through posts, people are always saying they have 18", 22" etc....., ?
so if i bought the mandrel piping kit for the crx from kteller, would some of the piping have to be cut off and wasted if i ran an 18" or bigger resonator? or what?
i just need to do this right, so if anyone can give any feedback i would appreciate it, thanks

a resonator won't help much with WOT sound levels. the muffler you are planning to use is a straight-through design. If you want a quiet exhaust consider a chambered muffler which is what the superturbo muffler you mentioned is.

about the superturbo muffler, i just copied and pasted his quote from an archived post, but did you also see he had a 31" resonator? if the muffler was quiet then why do you think he needed that as well? cause he has a zc like mine too
really forget about mufflers for a second, i don't want to take this post off on a "which is a better muffler" post, i already know which one i want, really my question is more about fitment, and about fitting the resonator in the piping, along with also having a catalytic convertor (stock) and which size resonator fits and so on.

see i was basically going to get this piping kit, see pic here: http://www.kteller.com/tech/efinstall.html
and this is mandrel bent, and i would get stainless, but the question is, how big a resonator can i put on along with this system, and would this piping kit have to be cut a lot and wasted if i put a resonator? cause its like $215 for the kit.
i will consider what you said though about a chambered muffler, but i have read about so many people on here that have magnaflow with resonator 18" and above and say it sounds great and is pretty quiet, but maybe they did'nt have a catalytic converter? i am not sure, but thats why i am asking this, cause maybe they replaced their cat with the resonator?

i have mike's system with a small straight through muffler and an 18" resonator. It is LOUD. stock cat as well. a resonator does not really reduce the sound level, it shifts the frequency of it. if you care about noise, which you have stated quite specifically, get a chambered muffler and a 14" resonator. my 18" resonator hits the shifter and scrapes along the bumps.

just wondering, are you talking about you have that setup on your 90 si? and is it stock engine, turbo, etc... and do you have a header? and what kind of straight through muffler? cause its hard going by peoples opinions on sound when they have different setups, but reading archives and hearing opinions like yours is all i can go by on deciding what to get, but its hard cause its like i thought i confirmed from several people that the magnaflow was quiet and sounded good, but now you got me thinking the other way, so i have to re-think
i forget where but i read some bad things about the dynomax turbo muffler versus the magnaflow, and just remembered i thought from what i read that magnaflow seemed better and i only heard good things about it, but most had resonators and said w/out one it sounds more raspy.
sucks that i have to do all this research, i mean really the only reason i have to get another exhaust system is that my old stromung cat-back is finally rusting out and broke a weld, which i have had since 97/98, but unfortunatley they don't make them anymore and all the other ones i have seen are way too expensive and look too gaudy big, or shiny which draw attention.

that exhaust is on my 90si, i had it when it had the stock A6 and i have it now that i have a high compression A6 the sound actually is mellower, both engines had the chikara header. a muffler is a magnaflow 6" round 14" in length exiting on the passanger side.
If you are looking for a nice quiet exhaust i have heard good things about RS-R exhausts.

i was going to get the magnaflow 5"X8" oval (18" long) mounted horizontally like stock, just regular aluminized w/ 2.25" single in/ two outlet, and whatever resonator and so on, w/ the kteller kit, and just for the resonator and kteller kit plus shipping would be about 310, then add the cost of the muffler and labor of welding, i estimate it would be around $450 or so, and it would be stainless piping which would last, but now that i think about it, i can possibly get an RS-R for around that.

What you have planned sounds like a really nice set-up. i would recommend Mike's system, can't go wrong.
What engine do you have? it definately should sound good, i would imply that the sound would be close to a older dual tip Thermal system a friend of mine has on his B16.

i have the kteller 2.25 system on my crx with a 14" magnaflow resonator and 2.25 in dual 2 inch out magnaflow muffler. everything fits perfect. i think the reason shops say it wont fit is cause all the bends in the undercarriage where the exhuast sits up in there would conflict with the fatty resonator. if it hung a little lower im sure you could fit whatever you wanted. ohh and also i got the muffler and resonator from http://www.completeexhaust.com super cheap and good service. as far as wasting the piping coming from kteller yeah you basically gotta cut the part for the resonator out. Also if you plan on doing a dual outlet you are gonna have to have that custom done at the shop cause the bends that kteller send you are only for a single outlet the size of the piping.

cool steemo, thanks alot for the info, same for you stan, i'll check it out
oh, almost forgot, what kind of engine do you have and hows the sound?
deep sounding? or only quiet at low-mid rpms? etc....?
and do you have a catalytic convertor on also?
