Default TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS!!!!!!! NEED HELP, PLEASE....

My transmission is locked in a gear, but the shifter will move around. What can or does happen when shifter forks break? Can the pin coming out of the shift linkage, even though the metal ring was around it ( haven't looked, just curious )? Does a shifter fork breaking cause any other internal damage, or is it something that does sparatic damage, different with each circumstance? how can my gear shifter move around when the tranny is stuck in a gear?
Ohh, I know its probally stuck in a gear, or I'm assuming it is, because it cant be pushed, either direction. Very confusing! Transmission guru's, please help me.

If the shifter is in neutral, and you let the clutch out the car pulls forward. If i try to give it gas to go, the car loses all power. Any know why the power goes away?

Thanks so much for any help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Probably stuck in a higher gear which causes it to die out. Anything is possible internally. Only one way to find out and that is to get it cracked open. Sometimes you get lucky!

When did you start having problems with the tranny?
Is it "new" tranny or did this one just break one day?

I can't imagine that there is anything wrong with your linkage.
If the pin came out of the linkage then it would pull apart and fall to the ground when you would try to shift gears.

It could be a broken fork. If the frok broke and the gear selector stayed on a gear rather than going to neutral then it would give you a gear in neutral.

It might not be the forks though. There is a small screw inside the clutch housing that locks a gear selection mechanism in place. WIthout it, you can manually select several gears at the same time. Shifting can become locked out and pretty much just freeze up the whole tranny operation. If something went wrong with that screw or the gear selection stuff inside the tranny you would have serious problems.

If it dies out in neutral then it's either stuck in a a high gear like 4th or 5th or it's stuck in mutiple gears at the same time.

I think you're going to have to drop the tranny.

You're going to have to open it up to figure it out anyway.

what would this serious problem be? thats more or less what it felt like!
And the tranny is an old tranny with new synchroes, clutch, quaiffe, throwout bearings, and thats whats new on it!

what mechanism does this "small screw" lock into place?
