Egg smell
Hey guys...
After dragging my car... I smell this sortof eggy smell (and this time it wasnt me farting!!) and other times like a burning oil smell. My friend was telling me that I was pushing too much on the gas when my clutch pedel is still abit pushed in and as a result burning the clutch. But I'm using the flatlining technique where I leave the gas down and quickly changing the gears when the gas is still down. Any comment guys? or is there a "CORRECT" way of doing things?
Thanks in advance guys

The bad egg smell is either your lack of a cat (like a straight pipe) or your cat went bad and is no longer working.
Slap: who hated having the windows up with the straight pipe installed...

flatlining technique? hmm, seems like your riding the clutch. sooner or later, you'll be smelling the burning clutch along with your egg.

Ever heard of Google?

Might be the fuel you are using - try a different brand

Power shifting?</TD></TR></TABLE>
I *think* what he means that when he depresses the clutch, he doesn't let off the gas and when he lets off the clutch he is still on the gas the same? So it's like dumping the clutch in every gear? hmm... would you not hit the rev limiter every gear during neutral? hmm /scratches head and tries to picture how he shifts
Or maybe like hondata full throttle shifting? /shrug
As mentioned, the egg smell is probably the cat, I'd imagine it smells like the OEM cat of the 2002 RSX? The cat might not necessarily be "bad" in that case (atleast that's what honda told my friend about his RSX cat), but the sulphur content passing might be high. He was able to get rid of it most of the time when he switched the brand of gas... I can't remember which he was using.
I find running a TP/straight pipe seems to give off a raw gas/burning smell (that seems to eat at your brain) more than an egg-smell...

Its called power shifting and No, if you know what you are doing and are a good driver, you dont hit redline between shifts...
I would guess the egg smell would be his clutch... i know i burnt my stock type r clutch after 2 or 3 track days so i wouldnt be suprised..

Hmm... I had always been under the impression the clutch was barely used in power shifting... "flatlining" made me think of revmatching...
Never really did get into drag strip scene /shrug.
I figured if you are shifting at redline, once you've engaged the clutch (and are still at WOT), wouldn't it become free spinning and bound to have some limiter bounce...
But I guess I can't say I've ever found the need for it on the track, though I've bounced the limiter loads of times in gear...
I've thought that burnt clutch smells much more "metallic" than the "egg-fart" smell...

This is a good source of bad smells. Slipping and burning a clutch will reek like *** (or eggs
).

When you power shift, just barely before you hit rev limit you depress the clutch and shift gears (fast as hell though). If you shift fast enough, there is very, very little to no bounce. I don't drag much, but its a good technique to know if you do. Good technique to put some serious extra wear on your clutch, tires, gears, axels, etc..too but that's another issue.

I have a testpipe and I don't get any egg smells, just raw gas and oil stink.
From my past experience A poorly operating cat will stink like bad eggs but never a testpipe.
