Default Myth Buster: Light Flywheel

I'm really interested in buying a light flywheel but I have heard my different stories about why and why not I should get one.

Myths:
1: A light flywheel is damaging to your quarter mile time.

2: It wheres out quicker than OEM.

If someone knows beyond a shadow of a doubt the answers to these myths please tell me.

damn my bad, I just looked on there and there ain't chit on flywheels.

basically, a light flywheel is good, but if you go to light you will affect your torque at the crank.

if you buy a quality brand name flywheel it will last.

1. This is possible. It could go either way. The revs drop quicker when you shift with a lightweight flywheel, to benefit from it shift faster. Lightweight flywheels can shave .2-.3 sec of the 1320 time.

2. I really don't know, but what ak1200 said about this makes sense to me.

The first time i drove my car w/ light flywheel I didn't like it. Got the hang of it and now I love it.
The stock pr3 ecu doesn't like light flywheels. If you have this ecu, i suggest a chip.

less rotational mass = more hp + trq, although it does have side affects such as your rpms dropping faster. If yor a good driver it shuold decrease your 1/4mi times.

Get one, play with it, have fun....you WILL like it better than OEM. Like they all said revs drop quicker during shifts, but i compensated w/ a good quality shrot throw shifter, upgrade your clutch kit too. You'll get use to it quick
