Default Lightweight flywheel... how much is too light for a turbo car ?

Hi guys I had to get my tranny off the car and I think that I should maybe look to get a new flywheel ...

I saw a good deal on a Fidanza flywheel but it weight 7lbs....

Is it too light for my application ?

BTW do a lighter flywheel help to get smoother shift at higer RPM ? 8000+

I think it does matter. When I bought my JUN flywheel for my old DA w/B16A....the shop told me not to go with something to light....why, they never told me....I had an 8 lb. JUN flywheel and it work awesome.....revs used to go up mad quick!

I dont know the problem is beacause there is some advantage for the two setup...

light : faster spoolup, easier to rev

regular : more torque to start off the line or just on the street on regular driving...

Anyone know how much weight a stock D16 flywheel ?

i have a 8.5 lb, and i did not notice a difference in TQ.

8.5 is pretty light. so 7 prolly is. see if you cant find one with a little more weight.

i wanna say the stock on is 20 + lbs , but i dont know.

I just searched...( I think that I should have search before lol this topic have been covered many times... )and I think that I will just get mine lightened to 12 pounds... Im think that from what I read it doesnt worth the $.

i have that same flywheel , the only thing i noticed was at take off i lost some low end but when the turbo spools its like a street bike , right to the rev limiter , it revs realy fast and free,

My new car has a lightweight flywheel and honestly I don't even notice it being any different.

you mean in term of driveability/launch ? or in term of performance ?

When I emailed ACT with the exact question, this is what they told me.

Basically Prolite flywheel is design for road racing and is made for vehicles constantly in high rpms. The Streetlite flywheel is design for street and drag racing for vehicles that require more inertia. Both are equally as strong, the difference is the weight.

Well, performance wise I can't say really cause I never drove the car w/ out it. Driveability wise, im comparing my hatch w/ jdm gsr engine and lightweight flywheel to my teg w/ completly stock b18c1.. The throttle is more responsive, even in neutral, but it doesn't have any problems w/ idle or stalling like i've read online before. flyhweel is 8lbs. Basically if I didn't know the car had a lightweight flywheel I wouldn't even think it did.

I ran a stock weight fly for acouple months and switched up for a 9lb fidenza. I wouldnt go back, it revs so much easier and feels stronger than before because of the pick-up. Although 1st gear is alittle to short. 10-12lbs would be my ideal choice.
Also I think stock flywheel is 18 or 19lbs.

I have a prolite and I love it. You loose a little inertia on the launch (like we really need it, FWD and all). It idles fine and rev's very fast in neutral.

You get faster accleration, smoother shifting, added stability when you heel/toe downshift in a turn(if you miss your rev matching) and it is all around.... snappier?

The lighter you go the more challenging it is to start in 1st gear (under street driving conditions). It just takes a little seat time and it will come to you like second nature.
