honing your block
whats up,
in a month or two im gonna put in a set of pr3 pistons in my LS. im gonna have to hone the block so that the new rings can seat well. im gonna use one of those spring loaded honing machines that u attach to a drill. my question is if i do a slight honing, will i need to get oversized pistons? i just need to hone to get the glaze off the cylinder wall.
i probably wont be do n the honing but my friend will who owns a shop will. i dont trust myself with that =/

you won't need oversized pistons. it would take a lot of honing to take .25mm off the surface of the walls. just make sure the surface is clean before honing, just hone enough to get the texture, and wash with soap and water. do not use any solvents to clean the cylinder walls. soap and water is all you need. a rag wet with a little gasoline will do for cleaning the honing grime off the walls too.
thanks for the info. i'll probably use tranny fluid to lube up the cylinders while do n the honing. then use break cleaner to clean up the cylinders after.
also, how do u guys get rid of that ridge on top of the cylinder? u know what im talk n about: the layer of black deposit on top of the cylinder. do u sand it off?
