Take the cluster out and take it apart. Check if the Autometer unit fits in there or if any modifications are needed.

The big tachs are pretty deep so I doubt it'll fit. If you REALLY want to place it in the dash, the only route you might have to take it making a panel out of steel to the shape of the OEM cluster, cut a hole out, then mount the tach.

IMO, get an EX cluster and get a ProForm shift light. You can mount the shift light anywhere you want and it'll be a lot cleaner than a hacked up job.

The ProForm shift light is independent. Wire it up as you would an aftermarket tachometer and set the dial on the rear of the light to whatever RPMs you want. 3,000-10,000 RPM in 200 RPM increments.

9,000 RPM with a 7,200 RPM redline.

yeah man, i was gonna do that same thing with the tach (on my EK) but they just are too deep like that other guy said to fit in well. itll look weird sticking out 3" and then you wont be able to fit the plastic casing around the cluster either.

i decided to just buy a new cluster with a tach.

The best thing to do in your situation would be to buy an EX cluster, then swap the speedometer/odometer assembly from your original cluster into the EX cluster. You'll have a tach, a temp gauge, your gas gauge, and your original speedometer with your cars original milage.
