Default Backwords Mini-me ? ?

I have a 88 Hatch with the stock D15b2 and my friend gave me a engine that is taking up room in his storage (D16z6 - Short block) and I was thinking about putting it in the hatch just for kicks.

The questions are:
Do you think I need anything more than a adjustable cam gear?
What gains do you think I should expect ?
Any problems I might run into ?

Why do you say that?

The c/r is the same, but I am adding .1 L --- That should add a little , Right?

I think you lose .5 on the compression ratio.
So 8.6:1 on a 1.6l...not impressive.

Why not buy a z6 head for $100 and have a normal engine?

The D15b2 is 9.2 : 1 c/r
The D16z6 is 9.2 : 1 c/r
Look -------> http://www.hondaswap.com/forum...29825

The reason why I don't buy a head and do a complete swap is cause I have LOTS and LOTS and LOTS of bills (Well into the thousands) that need to be paid in the next month and I am a mechanic and I can do think swap in about 2 hours. So this would be just for fun and to F*** around a little.

Anymore ideas ? ? ?

Compression ratio is just not that easy; it is a combination of piston displacement, combustion chamber design, and all the fun bore and stroke combinations. Anyhew, try this on for size http://www.knology.net/~jediklc/dcalc.htm

#1...that chart has multiple errors in it

#2...you're making apples to oranges comparisons for compression ratios. The z6 pistons are much more dished then the b2. Inversely, the roof design in much smaller on the z6. Match the deeper pistons to the larger roof and you have a larger combustion chamber, lower compression ratio

#3 Go here to figure it out

So what would be a good head to look for to work with the Z6?

I have some friends that are major pack rats with engine parts and I may find one soon for free. But I need to know what to look for. Besides the Z6 head what others are good?

Lose power over the stock b2?
Probably not, but the gains would be minimal, if any. Not worth the amount of work involved.

Another head that is good with the stock Z6 Block would be the Y8 because it would bump up compression a bit. If you start mixing and matching OEM pistons, you could slap any number of head / piston combinations and make power. Look for either a Y8 or Z6 though if you want to keep it simple.

I wouldn't use a y8 head for a boat ancor. The flow rate of the head is worse than a stock d16a6 head. If you'll search you can find the port flow rate for the z6 head , it almost rivals a b16. Fairly impressive for a single cam.

Honestly i'd swap the b2 head onto your z6 block, if the block is in good repair. Mainly just to have a reliable driver. The Z6 is a 1.6L so you'll have a bump in torque, which is always good for a honda.
