good-fitting aftermarket hood?
Hi all,
Unfortunately, a while ago i wrecked my car (4th gen.) and had to replace the hood, which i've had to chain to the front bumper to keep it from flying up while i'm driving. Well tonight, after working on the car under the hood, i forgot to chain it down, and it flew up and hit the windshield while i was driving, which sucked and bent the hood in half. Normally i would just order the same hood, but the fitment was really bad on this one, i think it was "OEM-style" instead of OEM spec, so it wasnt wide enough and looked a little shotty. Anyhow, could anyone give a recommendation of a brand that makes hoods that fit well on our cars? I may be looking for an aftermarket look this time as well, but i cant afford to spend the money on a CF hood. At any rate, any suggestions would help, or if you know anyone who's selling a stock hood, that'd be okay too. I just cant afford too much, seeing as how i'm a college student working for minimum wage. Thanks

Gemini is a good brand, their weave is so nice. Although their price is way too much now. Your best bet is with a VIS Grade AA. VIS upgraded their latches I think since they noticed a lot of buyers hoods flying off since it was weak before (Grade A). It still might be weak, but not a lot of people use hood pins with the VIS AA now.
Here's a picture of SilverLuderRide's (from PO) hood when he put it on.. VIS Grade AA:

VIS and Fiber Images. They're the only aftermarket hood manufacturers that I would trust on our cars. They also only make carbon fiber replacements, they don't make a metal replacement.
If you have been in a wreck, you will need hood pins anyways since the latch prob got busted or tweaked.
Unless you can find a cheap factory metal hood someone's selling locally or will ship for cheap, you might as well buy a carbon fiber hood for the money.

I just installed my VIS OEM hood, and am not very happy with the fitment or the quality. There is a blemish on the front of it. It looks like someone put a fingerprint on it while it was drying and then tried to repair it. One side sits an 1/8" higher than the fender. I expected more from a reputable company. I guess I should have tried Fiber Image. I'm picky too... and now I'm SOL.
