Default I know what block I have now...

...I have to find out what head is on there. The engine stamp says D16ZC...what head do you think is on there??? Its very small and plain and all it has marked on it is the "H" for honda.
The previous owner says that the ECU that was in there when he bought it was wrong and he put another in there. What ECU should I have???
And one more question, by the ECU currently there is a "RPM Activated Window Switch" what the hell is that??? Thats all for now please help me out civics are new to me....thanks in advance

thanks for the quick reply...what ECU should I have in there? And whats the redline on the D16Z6...right now it cuts off at 5500rpms and thats why I think the wrong ECU is in there.
And what the hell is that "rpm activated window switch"??? Its wired to the ECU somehow.

d16z6 redline is 7200. if you have obd1 conversion the correct ecu is a p28, if still obd0 then you should have a pm6. you could have any other ecu, but these 2 would be the ones you want.

oh and the rpm switch should activate the vtec

ok cool...its a 1990 I dont know what odb_ it is...anyone know??? Is there any way I can find out if it had the conversion. The guy I bought it from is a complete moron and bought with the swap done already so asking the previous owner anything is worthless
OK the switch is for the vtec, and there is like a fuse thing on the bottom of ot that says 4500...is that the rpm that vtec kicks in

yes, your vtec should come on at 4500. i'm making a pretty good guess that you are still obd0 since you have a rpm switch, so on the side of your ecu you want to see pm6 in the letters somewhere. that would be a good obd0 ecu to have in there, or a pg7. good luck

That PM8 should be thrown out. That's from an HF.

EDIT: BTW - IF you can't get the PM6 then the PM7 would be just fine.

What an assinine setup...an ecu with a 5500 rpm redline and a rpm switch set to what?
You're revving up, just hitting vtec and then the ecu says "stop".
I'd be curious what other corners the previous owner cut.

You need to convert your wiring to OBDI.

You can get a conversion harness for that. Plug and play with the addition of a few wires into the engine bay like VTEC etc.

http://www.jdmshit.com makes a good conversion harness. Last I checked it was only $119 shipped. If you're good with wiring and have a lot of patience you can make your own.

Then the p28 ecu just plugs in.

It really is the absolute best way to go.

WHY though?

I really do not understand at all why people feel the need to use an RPM activated switch when they do not have to!

It's so ghetto. Those switches don't even work all that great.

I know from experience, you want the obd1 swap. I have been running my sohc vtec swap with obd0 now for a while and obd1 is much much better.

Im going to look into the obd1 swap, but for a $400 car its awesome. I put the pm7 in and WOW what a difference, the pm8 is a piece of crap and I did throw it out!!!
Now about vtec...when I rode a other vtec cars, especially preludes, when the vtec kicks you can feel the your head kick back, and in this civic it just pulls all the way to redline, I cant feel a "crossover" point. Is that normal or is that parts of having the shitty RPM activator??
