I want to get my car repainted because the last owner painted it a custom purple color and its fading and chipping everywhere.. since no one can match it I just want a repaint.. I went to Scheib today and they gave me an estimate of $505 for their top of the line pro 3 package.. everythin included w/ 2 clear coats as well and 6 year warranty. Should I do it? If so im thinking either gloss black or pearl white..
despite what others may say... Earl Sheib doesnt do a bad job. I would do alot of the prep work yourself (removing trim pieces and such) since they are known to overspray.
I know a few people who had their paint done at Earl and it came out gorgeous.

Yah thats why im hesitant cuz of all the horror stories I hear about these places but i mean if im gettin their best service and a 6yr warranty.. i can come back for any fading peeling etc..
Get it and inspect everything. Go over the whole car with your hand. If you feel any spots that get rough make them wetsand and buff it again. Also make sure there are no fish eyes. Good luck.

I would highly suggest taking off all your body moldings, weather stripping, spoiler if applicable, and marker lights yourself. Then tape up your headlights and tailights yourself when you get there. This ensures that you will get virtually no overspray on these parts. If you have a spoiler then have them paint it off of the car. Also, tape up behind the front grill to keep them from accidentaly spraying paint on your radiator and such.
Then you get it back and reinstall all the trim pieces and there you go.

there is actually a maaco around me that just opened and the one painter there is awesome, his body work is horrible but he can sure as hell paint. I still won't go there to get a paint job though.
I wouldn't say GORGEOUS, but doing your own prep work will save you from having those sander marks Earl Sheib/ Steve Luckey/Maaco leaves. Sand until your arm falls off then switch arms and sand some more with your remaining arm. Tack rag the crap out of it so you don't get fisheyes. After you get it painted, stay on the service writer to fix the sags, runs, and orange peel.

Anyone here in SoCal willing to help me out with sanding my car down before it gets painted or have a shop? Preferably in Orange County
wow $500 for a complete job... if that turns out good its the deal of the century ... too bad not one here ... never even heard of em ...
if you want a complete paint job here with new color and have them take out all your small dings and such it will cost you roughly 3k ... i have the hookup here and it would still cost me a cool $1000

I had my old CRX painted at Maaco years ago and I had everything primered and it tuned out great. I got their best package also. They definately over spray though. Now one of my good friends is a bad *** painter so I will be getting my coupe repainted from the melal up for $2,000.00 with many a many coats of clear and paint.
My advice would be to do all the bodywork, prep work, and masking
work yourself. I just barely repainted my car a few weeks ago. I
had my friend that works at a body shop spray the car only, I did everything
else. If you take your time with all those it will turn out nice (in theory).
And defineately take off everything that you can to paint your car. I took
off my wing, headlights, taillights, running boards, stripped the hood, gas
lid, mirrors, handles, and probably a couple other things. And be sure to
primer any body work spots several times to get it right.

Hmm i wouldnt get my car painted their then. When i worked at a body shop that did work for lexus, jaguar and bmw. I did all the prep work. We would wet sand and buff. Clay bar all the overspray. But we were also charging 1000+ for paint jobs.
