Hello I'm Daniel
I'm a long time reader first time writer. I have a 2000 prelude with a 2.2 vtech and want to replace the head with a non vtech what is the best head for this?

And he's right. You're better off selling the car and getting a non-vtec car. It would be a major downgrade to install a non-vtec head on a vtec block.
What is the reason for wanting to not have vtec?

Not to mention that they didn't make a non-VTEC Prelude after 1996, or in the 5th gen platform at all in North America. That means that you will have to do something non-factory for tuning, so really much more than the effort could possibly be worth.

OP... I will indulge you. Ignoring all of the important issues that you will face as Snobordboy mentioned above... My question is WHY ??? Just WHY ??? You really want to convert from 195 HP back down to 160 HP ??? Do tell...

Re: Hello I'm Daniel
It would be simpler to get a tunable ecu for the engine, and have a competent tuner simply re-map the car for low octane fuel, compared to swapping everything to a non-vtec head, or a whole non-vtec engine. Definitely not taking advantage of the compression of the engine, or the design and tuning of the head.
But considering the cost of premium versus lower octane fuel, over the course of a year, average driving it would take many years to offset the costs of doing so.
The more common reason why someone might want to do this, is to use a newer chassis to dirt race in a class that does not allow variable cam timing etc. per the rules, and must use a stock head and ecu.
