danteisme's 1996 DB8-Found and Rebuild Thread
I actually had the windshield out of my eg for replacement when we found it. Pretty sure I cut out the bad stuff and tack welded a piece of sheet metal in, then covered the edges with seam sealer. I'll pm you about the climate control.

Depending on how thin that metal is, i might be able to tack something in there without the flux core burning through it.

I'm just worried i wont be able to fix it myself and i'll have to save up a ton of money to get an autobody shop to fix it, which would essentially keep the car off the road until that happens / if that happens.

Might be better just to find another shell and swap everything over if that's the case. Wouldn't be practical to have a shop fix that spot.

thats what i’m afraid of. I’ve put so much time and money into this car, swapping everything over will be another sh&t ton of work. I certainly won’t find another sedan worth anything around here. It would be the same or worst shape than mine when I got it back. I’m going to search for another shell just to see what kind of funds I would be looking at, but ultimately I don’t see it being feasible for me right now. I’ll be heading out to the garage here to start investigating in the next 30 minutes or so, so i’ll have a better idea of what i’m up against very soon. Once I see how bad it is, i’ll be able to weigh out my options more clearly.

So, I think I lucked out. I did my investigating and within maybe 15 seconds or so of grinding at the rust, i found clean metal. I did find two very small perforations but they can be easily tacked shut.
However, right above the clean metal I found more traces of rust going up under the windshield.
So, the situation escalated quickly from there...
So, after fighting with the windshield for freakin 5 hours, its out. That 22 year old glue and sealant did not want to let go. And, I probably should have asked someone to come over and help me take it off. I made that harder than it needed to be doing it myself. I found 2 more small sections of rust. Again, i spent some time with a wire wheel and got down to clean metal again. So, I think I lucked out. I'll finish cleaning it up and spray some rust inhibiting paint on there before I prime and paint. THEN, i'll finally get the glass company to come out and do there work.
So, I'm frustrated that I found this but at the same time I'm glad I found it. I'm frustrated because its going to add a good bit of time onto my schedule for getting the car back on the road, but I'm glad because I caught it while it is fixable and I'll have some piece of mind knowing that I took care of it correctly.

I'm just glad that's all the worse it actually is. I mean, we could import a super clean DB8R for you, but that's even more expensive lol
AHhhhh rust is the devil. It creeps up and ruins our cars. I can’t wait to get my car running so i can drop it at my body mans shop and have him repair my quarter panels. But now u got me thinking about my front glass area. Since i need my glass changed anyhow I’ll just have my body man check that area out too

All down to good metal and first step applied! Rust converting / inhibiting primer. Next step will be scuff that up slightly and applying chassis saver.

So i was going to start the coats of chassis saver tonight, but then i realized i'm forgetting a step. There was a whole bunch of seam sealer on here before i started. I can't remember how far it extended, is it just where these couple of panels meet?

Finally got around to coating the area, just need to add some green paint and get the window guys out here.

I tried using the stronger goof off stuff to remove the glue adhesive off my door panels, it removed some but it made them super sticky. what else could i use to safely remove this from the door panels?

I think I would've scrape away from the seam sealer, sand, chassis saver, and then re apply new seam sealer. You don't water creeping inside your car now.
