Default Header compatibility?

Sorry if it's been stated, but I had a 96 civic sedan D16Y7 with Megan 4-2-1 headers. I recently bought a 95 ex D16Z6, anyone know if the headers match right up? The Y7 engine is toast but I still have the transmission from it, would that also bolt on the Z6?

Yes both parts would fit. The exhaust ports and the transmission mounting are the same on all D-series.

If this guy has a Megan header mounted on a Y7, is it safe to assume he either removed the cat or converted to a more Y8 style exhaust wherein the cat is further back?

OP, are you running a cat on that thing?

The OEM Y7 exhaust has a cat that is vertically mounted directly to the manifold.

The Y7 exhaust setup was catless. I bought the 96 Y7 with the add-ons already on it. Guy before me had the headers with a Greddy evo2 catback. I wanna try to switch that same exhaust setup to the 95 ex, it's a pretty tough sounding system. Thanks a lot for the input as well. It also has a short wire mesh tube in the exhaust line, I'm guessing a resonator tube?

The mesh portion is the flex pipe. Compensates for the engine torque and keeps the rest of the exhaust loosey goosey.

The flexible pipe may be where the cat is supposed to be.

If the OP intends to transfer the entire 1996 exhaust to a 1995, it seems unlikely that it would fit. The header would fit the engine of course but the body of the car is different and the cat back pipes would not line up.

True, forgot that it was catless.

Heh, going through the thread, was about to post this same thing then saw you already hit it.

x2 for Header will fit without issue, it's the rest of the exhaust that will pose fitment issues.
