EJ6 Exhaust parts.
I've got an 97' EDM EJ6. It's powered by a stock d16y7.
The question is this: Can i use y8 OEM/aftermaket parts on it? Example:
I want a header and exhaust. Is the, say DC, header for the y8 (EX) bolt-on on my y8? And is, say DC, exhaust for the y8 (EX) bolt on? Can i use y8 IM on it, without the mini-me swap?
And the cat is located on the stock header. With a aftermarket header/exhaust, for the EX, wil the cat fit under my car? It's the same car, right? Just the different head and IM and ECU... or? In any case it's more differences, please do a small list.
Thanks for any/all help.
I'm a n00b.

what you would need to make this work is a ej8 header/cat/and exhaust. the ej6 is missing an exhaust hanger that the ej8 has and it also is missing the header support bracket. other than that, everything will bolt up perfectly. just make sure to buy all ej8 parts and you'll be fine.

Hum,
So to make ej6 y8 (EX ) exhaust parts work on my EJ6 y7, i have to use ej8 parts? And what ej8 models should i use the parts from? The y7 or y8? Or is there some misunderstanding here?
I figured that if it's not any good aftermarket parts for my d16y7 engine, i might as well use at least exhaust/header/cat aftermarket parts made to fit the d16y8, because it's the same car and engine block, just different head, IM and ECU. My question is, will that work?

ok...put in relatively simple terms...buy a header, catalytic converter, and exhaust system made for a 96-00 Honda Civic EX.
if you don't buy the cat you will be left with a 16" gap between the exhaust mani and the beginning of the catback exhaust system.
a dx and ex civic differ in the exhaust manifold areas because the ex has a 'regular' type of exhaust mani, whereas the dx has an integrated catalytic converter in it's exhaust mani. since you're taking your cat out, you need to be putting one back on. therefore, buy a cat made for a 96-00 honda civic ex.

Yup, that's what i was talking about.
So it's all bolt-on between those models... nice.
-tanks.
So i could in theory get a OEM eEX exhaust mani for my DX and after its installed i have a non-cat exhaust system?

no. because you would be missing about 16.25" of your exhaust system. you could get a muffler shop to fabricate a straight pipe, but if you're gonna do that, what's the point of buying all the ex specific parts?!
it's all bolt on between the models to a point. the parts will all fit as long as you stick with one trim level or the other. NO mixing and matching.
