Default Pics *what's this sealant type material around the block guard?

May be a easy or dumb question but what is this stuff and why is it used?


I haven't seen the block In person just pics, is this anything to be worried about?

Citation needed, someone with more experience with block guards please chime in, but it looks like they used that sealant in lieu of welding the block guard into the block.

It is something I would be concerned about.

Yea I have had two blocks with guards and it never looked like that, so I decided not to buy it, offers still on the table but looks like I'm going to pass because it just looks fishy to me.

Anyone else have any ideas?

In all my years of looking at and working on cars I have never seen a block guard done like that. You either buy one of those POS drop in block guards that do nothing but distort cylinders and hamper cooling, or you send your block to CSS and they machine their proprietary block guard into place and you have something akin to sleeving just not quite as strong...

THIS mess looks like someone took the shitty drop-in kind and is trying to pass it off as a CSS job by JB welding it into place. I would most defintely pass. Did you ask the seller what this was?
