That's correct. My switches light up in my armrest, I like that - easier to find in the dark, too.
Attached is the Heated Seat wiring from a 98-00 Acura 1.6EL. This wiring is identical to what you would use in a 96-00 Civic. Note I have annotated it with some information - I have no recollection of doing this but evidently I compared the diagram to the ETM and figured out some stuff, including a suspected printing error (Fuse 3 vs. 2). Anyway it should help you out if you want to replicate the OEM setup.

Reason: Updated EL wiring diagram with correction and notes.
I did this exactly as the DIY states. I used an aftermarket pad set (~50/side) While I do not have the switches light up with the dash lighting, I do have the wire run for it. pending my other dash wiring projects. I am running Integra leather front seats and used some OEM 2 pin connectors to tie the seat power to my CL switch wires.

That is incredibly helpful, thank you! I'm going to the junkyard in about an hour so I'm making a shopping list of things Ill need for an OEM-like setup. I hope to have them install at least by the end of the week! So I can make use of them at least once lol

You going to wrench a part?? Thinkin bout heading out myself. **** WORK. Got me pissed off today.

Haha yea man, I went out there. I need to go back and see if they'll let me use a battery to move the seats, so I can get them out. ****** power seats... I just wanna get under dem seats, and tickle it's wiring. Just a little 'boop~' to thems undercarriages. Then I wanna take all it's connectors. Oh baby, the connectors. And relays, and wires. OOOOO lawd. Gunna get freaky later.
BTW, all the seat heater pads in the drivers bottom cushion were fucked, so I just took both the passenger sets. I got a total of 5 pads, some connectors with as much wire as I could, and a couple relays for free because they fit easily in my pants. (shhh)
I don't have much left to get. I think I'm about 2/3s of the way done with acquiring the right parts. The things I can make, I won't bother getting from the donor. Then it's just figuring out where **** goes, and putting it in there!
Neither. I mean I have never been in any Honda on the road that has had OEM heated seats and been able to use them. I've seen them in junkyards plenty, but I don't know anyone who actually drives a Honda with factory heated seats.
The seat heater switch light is the light that comes on with your dash lights to illuminate the switch buttons. Has nothing to do with the ON indicator light.
I have oem heated seats in my hatch
Here's a pic of my switches. They do not light up when I put on my dash lights, only when the heater is on the green light works. I'll need to take them out to check if the bulbs are broken in the switches.
^ Those ones don't light up with the dash lights, unfortunately.
Ah, oké.
Didn't have time to pull them out yet so now I don't need to. They are easy enough to find so I don't really mind. On the possitive side, no bulbs to go out neither. :D

I am gearing up to put some aftermarket seat heaters in my car, using this guide. I pulled some switches like honda-boy has from a 98 CL yesterday. All the seat heater kits I see for sale have at least two "levels" of heat. As deschlong mentioned, I don't see myself ever using the low level. Anybody have suggestions on how to wire them just to come on the high level? Then I can use the switches I pulled. They fit my armrest perfectly and I like 'em.
BTW I had a Subaru Outback with cold weather package for about 10 years. Never used the low setting, ever.
^ I think I explain in the DIY that mine had hi/lo too? Anyway if I didn't: I just left them in place, set the switch to high, and tucked and cable tied all the extra wiring under the seat.
Civic EG heated seat switches do have place for backlight, but no pre-wired wires. Also if you open the switch you can see that even if you install the bulb and wires for it, the backlight is blocked from inside the switch.
If you want those backlights, use EDM Accord switches that look identical, but have backlight capabilities and add wires for your heated seat harness.
Just found this, looks like it would be a very cool idea for my EG Hatch!
I went through some of the p/n's for switches; it looks like the '97 Acura CL switch # 38535-SS8-A01 is NLA, as is the switch for the '98-'99 CL # 38535-SM4-S01.
The switch for the '05-'06 CR-V SE is still available under p/n 38535-S9A-S01ZA for ~ $70.
I'm very sorry for opening this thread again. I recently bought some heated pads that were going to be installed into my Integra which share the same wiring diagrams as the 92-95 civic. My seats came with the relays and switches and I see that you don't mention extra relays other than the main relay. Did you use the relays supplied with the heated pads? I was a bit confused on that.
Mine didn't require any relays. But if yours need relays then yeah just wire them in so that the switch closes the relay which will be connected to ..... hmmmm, something from the fuse box.
I believe mine don't as well. Another question, how exactly would you pin out the mitsuba relay? Would the same apply as the switch from top left down to bottom right? I see a lot of diagrams that have it all mix-matched like the diagram above from a CR-V, however the relay itself has it pinned differently.
Yes, they'll work fine ... just you'll need two of them for the driver and passenger sides. Another option is the 2-in-1 switch from a 2nd Gen 2005/06 CR-V SE - p/n 38535-S9A-S01ZA will also work. Price is reasonable brand new for that ... about $50. I can *almost* guarantee that the connector size/shape will be the same as the '97 Acura CL one, which is the exact same as the hazard switch from a 92-95 Civic ... VERY easy to find.
Don't know what the connector looks like on the 38535-SM4-S01, but one of the main differences between that one and 38535-SR3-S01 is that the former lights up with the dash lights (very nice), while the latter does not. My guess is 38535-S9A-S01ZA (CR-V) also lights up with the dash lights, just like the Acura CL one.
EDIT: Here's what that CR-V switch looks like (Canadian 2005 CR-V):
38535-S9A-S01ZA is also disco'd.
I guess when you go looking at a 13 year old thread there is going to be some disappointment!
