Hello all,
I ordered a driver side CV axle for my 1996 Civic, from Raxles, but when it arrived, the box said "1992 Civic" on it. I emailed and asked, what year Civic they sent me axle for, they replied 1992 - 2000 Civic. Hmm? It’s my understanding, that my '96 Civic a “6th Generation”, which I believe is from 1996 - 2000 NOT 1992 - 2000.
Did they send me the correct axle?

Dimensions of a '92-95 Civic axle and a '96-00 Civic axle are very similar... the inboard joints appear differently but the axle length is the same, so they are interchangeable. Raxles is a stand up company, and if Marty says that the axles will work on either chassis, you can believe it. Worst case... he will make it right.
Put it in and run it... the label is a "nothing burger".

Hmm? When I go to Honda dealer site, they give me the following:
1992: DRIVESHAFT SET, L. (44011-ST7-950),
This part does not fit your 1996 Honda CIVIC
1996: DRIVESHAFT SET, L. (44011-S01-951),
This part does not fit your 1992 Honda CIVIC
I have not put it in the car yet...Concerned about return, if not correct. That said, with different numbers, dimensions and inboard joints for a '92-95 Civic axle and a '96-00 Civic axle...How are they interchangeable?

if you need more verification, well maybe not actual verification, but maybe some sort of statistical analysis, you could take your new axle to a parts store and ask them to see an axle for a 96 civic. compare them, eh?
or maybe go to a junk yard and pull the axle from a 96ish civic and compare.
i know it could be annoying, but if you pull the axle from your car, you can compare them. i think that’s the only real way to know if the two axles are identical
@shmooly, @mk378,
Thanks!
Called Raxles, Marty reassured me this is correct axle and fitment as well as confirmed it has abs tone ring. That said, probably, just going to wait to pull the axle from my car, to compare them.
FWIW, Here she is...
Even a 7G Civic axle will swap into a 1992-2000 Civic. This means you can get pretty new OEM axles out of the junkyard for pennies on the dollar. I did this. Worked out great.

Good to know, for when the PS goes. When you get parts from the junkyard, do you have to remove the parts from the car?
Thanks!

Yes. You will need the axle nut socket, a bfh, and a prying tool, in addition to the standard set of junkyard tools (see my sig for link to these). I now use the bfh method to remove ball joints; I don't bother with proper ball joint tools anymore. Remarkably effective and low effort.

Couldn't find link in sig that led to your standard set of junkyard tools but probably time to start putting a set together. That said, what do you do about lifting the car, at a junkyard?

Just a heads up, for those considering buying Raxles from long distance. They may be “excellent” and all but last year — a little over 3 years after purchasing the D/S Raxle — I noticed that the boot on mine had a huge tear and was wide open. Although, they have a lifetime warranty, it states “In the case of FWD (which, tbh, I’m not sure if they mean front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive) axles, excessive damage to components due to torn boots is not covered”.
Also, unless you’re in a position to take the axle off the car, send it back to them and wait for their response and/or replacement, which I imagine could take many days, if not weeks, I’d seriously re-consider buying Raxles.
