The potatpocalypse bunker is going to get so dusty, now. Who will post 'Mech gifs in Max's absence? Scruffy wasn't the hero GDD deserved. He was the hero GDD needed.

Summer has been busy. Unfortunately zero hours on the project Civic, though.

Finally got around to doing a few easy things. Before I do anything drastic trying to chase down that oil leak that was plaguing me, I decided to replace the upper VTEC solenoid gasket. The screen gasket was new but, now it's more new. I also replaced the four FITV gaskets and the one IACV gasket. They were old and I had coated them with Hondabond when I was chasing down my vacuum leak.

Simple **** but at least I crossed something off the to-do list.

Also disposed of 33 quarts of old motor oil that I was hording.

Thanks for the bump, dude. Hope all is well with you.

I've no time right now. 80 year old house, family health stuff, 20 year old DD in the rust belt, and bike racing every weekend with training during the week have me pretty booked up.

One thing I thought of recently that I need to check out is I recall my exhaust cam gear slipping. I may have fucked up my valves, guides, and pistons. My plan is to get a boroscope for my phone and see if the tops of my pistons have any gouges. That should tell me if it all needs to come apart again. Is there another inspection method I should used?

Live and learn, amiright?

Leak down test would tell you if you bent some valves too.

Little word of warning, many of these, the software they point you to is not on the app stores and is questionable.

The other thing to be aware of, on the phone it's a max resolution of 640x480 but some of them (mine is a 5mm) give you 1024 resolution when you plug them into the laptop.

I'll have to find the link to the freeware I found that operates the china made borescopes you see all over the place (amazon, ebay etc). The software works excellent on windows 7 and lets you take snapshots and is free, no ads and no viruses.

Ahhh found it in my Chrome bookmarks:

http://www.oasisscientific.com/downloads.html

Nice, they now have an android app... Will have to see if it works with my 5mm scope. I have tried countless apps from the store to no avail. And like I mentioned, the link that tends to come with these is pointed at a website not related to the app store (apple or android).

That is awesome you are getting to race every weekend, and train! I hope the health issue can all be resolved...

As for the exhaust cam gear slipping, that is exactly why I am leery of those things.

Last time I was in the local Sams Club they had a scope kit. I can check and see if they still have them next time I am in.

Good point. But, then I've no reason to buy new toys.

Would a portable nail gun compressor be enough to do a leak down? I don't have a compressor at my house and would need to borrow one.

Cool. Thanks. I wouldn't have considered the legitimacy of the software if you hadn't said anything. This will work with basically any endo/boroscope?

Cool and exhausting. I was leading the series in points up until last weekend. I was sick last week and of course it was before the only weekend in the series with TWO races. So, I had two bad races and now I'm in third... There's two races to go and I'm ready for it to be over.
The adjustable cam gear slipping was 100% my fault. I didn't check the bolts. I probably should have stuck with the stock configuration for this phase of the build, though. I'm not skilled enough to degree an engine.

Anyways, I need to remodel a bathroom and I've bushings, springs, and struts for the DD that NEED to go on so, the project Civic remains on hold. I don't give up on things. My interests and priorities just wax and wane very heavily.

It seems to work with any of the android micro usb endo/boroscopes on Windows 7. Not sure about other windows OS as I only have 7.

Still haven't checked the android app yet.

It's my opinion that all the cheap ones 7mm and 5mm you see on ebay, amazon as well as aliexpress all come from china and built with the same components. So I can only assume this software will work with the majority of them being it works with my cheap china made one.

Looks like Oasis updated the software and now say it's compatible with Windows 10. I checked my phone and it doesn't have USB On the Go or whatever it is that the endoscopes require to work with phones so I'd have to use my laptop. So, that's another potential compatibility issue. Phones need to have USB OTG to use the boro/endoscopes.

I'm not sure if a nail gun compressor would have trouble keeping up with the pressure delivery but its worth a shot. I'm sure you can rent these tools from the local automotive store as well.

Thanks, dude. Yeah, the compressor is the lynch pin for me. I've been waiting to buy one until I build a garage and run a 220V circuit. If needed, I could just tow the bucket to my parents' or my uncle's place and rent/borrow a leakdown tester.

As long as it will put out the required pressure, it should be fine. Not like you need to deliver a lot of volume. In theory, you are just filling that one cylinder up to pressure and hopefully it holds.

Unless you have bent valves... But then you should be able to find that leak pretty quick.

Good point. I was thinking about it from a pneumatic tool standpoint.

Sounds like you have got some sweet racing in!

I hope the bathroom and DD chores don't fight you too bad...

When you get it, I would check it on your phone anyway. Maybe you will get lucky and have the OTG even though it doesn't seem to be listed on your phone specs.

I have the HTC One M8 and it works with it. However, Oasis android software didn't work with it. I used their suggestion and looked for mScope in the app store. The highest rated "Mscopes for USB camera" by Zyepro was at the top of the list and I'm happy to report it works with this cheap china made boroscope.

Even though you will likely get the best pictures using your laptop.

Yup.
I also run the myhondahabit oil pan gasket. It is worth the higher than OEM price IMO simply because no leaks mean no repairs and no cleanup!

Cleaned out the garage so I could start working on this thing again. Gotta figure out where I left off.

Got under the car today and discovered I need a shift seal. Trans fluid was dripping out of the shifter boot. Easy enough fix.

I ended up getting a cheap boroscope for another project but it's focal length is too far to see valves. Didn't look like contact was made with the pistons though.
