Default 06 CRV rear spindle knuckle bushing install

Seems like the left rear suspensions on Honda are a pain to work on if your in a salt environment. There is no engine heat or exhaust heat (rear right) to dry out the moisture and the bolts rust to the bushing inserts.

Had to replace lower left rear control arm due to damage to the welded on toe flange. The lower rear control arm bolts was seized in the knuckle spindle bushing. After cutting out the bolt and removing the control arm I had to replace the knuckle bushing.

To remove, I drilled a circle around the steel bushing, pushed it out and removed the remaining rubber bushing.

I purchased grade 8 bolts, nuts and washers the same diameter as the knuckle to pull in the bushing, ended up needing two large thick washers and two small washers at each end. (I have tried threaded rod and lower grade bolts in the past and have stripped threads. Need different length bolts to change out as the bushing is pulled in.

Here is the set up on the knuckle, lubed the bushing and knuckle with Dawn soap.

This set up didnt fully seat the bushing

So I used a pulley wrench that was the same diameter as the knuckle to allow the bushing to pull all the way thru. You could use ~34 mm socket as well.

You can use this approach to the upper knuckle bushing, but will need to use sockets on both ends since the inner bushing is longer than the outer.

Good luck.
