Default Upper Control Arms Slamming Wheel Well After Lowering

So I believe my front upper control arms are hitting my wheel wells when I go over bumps. It slams hard over train tracks and such. Here's my set up. 97 H22 Accord with brand new Function and Form Type 1 coilovers, full energy suspension bushing kit, 15x7 rims and Innovative traction bar with front motor mount. I just got it aligned. The car is about 24" off the ground to the center of all the wheel wells. I searched but couldn't find a fix, other than cutting the engine bay or raising it. I've seen guys a lot lower than I am. Do you have the same problem? I do believe my control arms are aftermarket. Could that be the issue? I lowered it a 1/2" more than what the picture shows. Please let me know what everyone thinks. Thank you for your time.

Does anyone happen to know if type 1s come with bump stops installed? I didn't notice them when I put mine on but I wasn't really looking either.

There are a number of lowered CD Accords that successfully cut out a section in the top of the strut tower and weld in a cup. Other than that, you could cut and lengthen the upper control arms in order to change there geometry.

If you are going to go that low you will have to modify the chassis somehow. As far as I know there is no quick fix.

Thanks a lot guys. I was just making sure I wasn't missing anything. I'm driving my baby 6 hours to OC MD next week and don't wanna take any chances. Once I get back I'll try bending out the edge of the fender well first. If that doesn't work I guess I'll cut and weld. Thanks again fellas!

Here's a few pics of what I found. From what I can tell the previous owner had the area above the control arms cut out at one point but welded plates over them. It's a bit higher than the original height but it appears they're still hitting. You can see a line where it's been hitting, on the top side and it's on both sides. I also think these are aftermarket arms and they appear to have a larger lip on them. I might shell out the $340 and try the oem controls arms. But for now I lifted the front up a 1/4". I looked at the lip that's cut off in the pictures above but that doesn't appear to be my issue. The last picture shows the current height of my uppers with no load. The line in the upper middle of the pic is where they're hitting. It actually started to crack the welded piece that someone put in.

This arm was pretty much flush with the fender well lip before I raised it a 1/4" so you can just imagine how far up it goes when the car is sitting on the ground. 😃

get the upper control arm from a ef2. its smaller and wont hit, but you will be running a good -3 camber once you switch.

Do you have camber adjusters on the inner bushings of the control arms? That will make them hit the fender.
