Default 92-95 Civic Fuel door stuck (solved)

Hi guys,

When I was filling up my gas last week, the fuel nozzle must have knocked into the door while it was open, and a metal clip fell to the floor. I picked it up and replaced it onto the fuel door hinge where I thought it went. It must have been backwards or somehow placed wrongly, because now the door does not open after I closed it. The fuel door lever under the drivers seat does not seem to do anything.

I will try having someone pull the lever while I mess with the door, and I might be able to get it back open. Can anyone direct me how to properly place this metal clip when I get it open? I can't seem to find this in the owner's manual.

Thanks!

thanks, Ron!

Why will I need to access the fuel lid latch?

The little metal clip that I was mentioning, is in that picture. This is perfect to help me place it back where it belongs. I should be able to get the door open without removing the interior piece.. just by messing with the door while pulling the standard lever by the drivers seat, no?

I assumed you would need to remove the latch to get the door open. Let us know what works.

The little metal clip you mentioned is there to push the fuel door open when you pull the release lever. Should just snap right back on. Make sure the orientation matches the picture.

In this^ case, the door can be opened if a buddy lifts the cable release handle while OP opens door.

That is exactly what I will be trying to do, later today or tomorrow. I haven't had time to get to the car yet today.

Basically, I believe I snapped that clip back in with the incorrect orientation. I will keep you posted.

Finally got around to fixing it today. I was easily able to open the door while having someone else pull the lever in the drivers seat. I then noticed that the clip wasn't on correctly. The orientation was correct but one there are two sides that need to clip around the mounting post on the door itself, which I didn't see before. Basically the clip wasn't mounted properly. Now the door opens and closes correctly again

Thanks for the help!
