CSS block question
Are these still seen as a viable alternative to fully sleeved blocks?
Has there been any reported failures?
My goal is under 500hp but will be used on track, and may even compete in a odd race meeting which will be hard on engine for 20 solid mins.
What's the thoughts on these? The idea is still quite new in UK and the info isn't about
Thanks

Not speaking from experience here, but moreso secondhand anecdotes of sleeving.. I've heard of more problems with aftermarket sleeve systems dropping or moving moreso than CSS failure, but doesn't necessarily mean it's any better/worse.
For 500whp on a B series (only guessing as you didn't specify) should be fine with just a CSS if the block is in good condition, and your tuner keeps everything in check. It would also be a lot cheaper. Good sleeves done correctly though would leave you room to grow power wise. I definitely would imagine aftermarket thicker sleeves will hold up to more.

Locash Racing does Darton Sleeved blocks for $1200 bucks. Good thing about Darton Sleeves is you can replace individual sleeves. Locash Racing also can o-ring and CNC notch blocks for aluminum rods as well.
I currently have a GE 84mm sleeved block that I had bored, honed, bead blasted and o-ringed for $1310 plus $100 dollars for shipping.
So for maybe $500 or $600 bucks more I would much rather have a true sleeved block.

or do what I did, and make your own precision block guard, cost me $70 usd. Put it on a level surface unlike me so you don't have to deck it or file down the high spots.
Agree with all the above. I planned on running CSS, the cost is appealing but until you ship it there and back, at least 100 bucks, you add on boring honing and decking while its there...
325 for css
425 for all machine work
100 min for shipping
850 bucks. It works but for 250-300 more you can get AEBS sleeves or another brand of your choice. I picked up a fresh AEBS sleeved block for 800 shipped.
Css works, its proven for sure. If it was maybe 500 bucks all in ide go for it. IMO if you dont have 300 more dollars to go all the way, maybe a high performance engine build isnt the right path.
-If your about the support on a budget, just get some moroso block filler, that too has been proven to handle power and its truly inexpensive.

The cost of css here in UK is £600 including bore and hone.
Cost of darton sleeves supplied and fitted is £1400
Yes it's for a bseries.
I'm not being cheap, I'm already running forged internals. Acl bearings ect
And power is currently under 400.
My concern is when I put more power through it. The life of the sleeves will be compromised.
I'm not planning on running huge power, as it will be unusable for track. But I will be using this solely on track and it will be getting driven hard for a period of time.
Are darton sleeves worth more than double for my goals?

You really won't. See, the CSS process with the original installer is what makes this setup so unique. The fact that there even is an installer in the U.K. is a miracle, so, despite the cost, you have very little option. Get to him if you want this process done, and don't wait for the U.S. one. (Though in either case, if tuning is spot on, you won't need it anyway)

In the UK, the price difference between the 2 is the equivalent to $1000
UK is so overpriced for everything. We have little choice but to have to pay these prices. Or trust and wait for a place in the US to send one over.

He's busy when "He's busy". He's not worried about Honda Days or any of these other events. He's an engine builder and machinist, not much of a promotional guy. He's used to phone calls more than e-mails. A man of the 80s.
Call him.. Yes, even if it's international.

Contact Joe at Locash CNC, they do all sleeving in house, o-ring, notch blocks for aluminum rods if wanted.
They can sell you a block or you can send yours and they will sleeve it.

Of course, I just contacted Joe and he said he just finished sleeving a block and sent it out to a guy in Greece.
He said give him a call and he can answer whatever questions you have.
