Attention victims of TigerJapanese.

Re: Attention victims of TigerJapanese.
Mike contacted me via e-mail a few hours ago and requested that I call him because he had an offer for me. In exchange for resolving my feedback threads(including this one), he would resolve my unhappy experience with TJ and refund me the original purchase price of the motor minus shipping. I edited my first-posts on these threads, and he sent me the refund via paypal. A deal's a deal, so this is the conclusion of my story.
Thanks.
Thanks.

I don't see why you can't file in your local small claims court. You have jurisdiction although collecting by be difficult. You could also write a letter to your state AG and ask for assistance.

I made the mistake of ordering from TJ also, needed a complete JDM LS swap for my then dead hatch. $700 cheaper from TJ than Hmotors so I decided to be dumb and go cheap. Bad mistake. My supposed 94+ LS is really a 94+ block, 92 LS head, and a s4c tranny case with what I think has to be LS gears due to the rpm/km numbers I get. I got zero response when I called and emailed about it and the tps was broke when it arrived at the shop where it was shipped to. If I ever order another motor it will be Hmotors all the way...

Re: Attention victims of TigerJapanese.
I went to the Acura/Honda Apprenticeship Program in Scarborough and TJ was located not too far from the school. I remember driving by it one day and realizing that's where and what it was after seeing ads online and hearing people mention it.
I always preferred HMotorsOnline because they have been around for some time but thought I would do a little homework on other places just to see. Looks like my suspicions proved correct and HMO will be getting my money one day for an engine for the Civic.
I don't understand how companies like TJ can remain in business with ethics and tactics like that. I mean, even if there are people who have good experiences with them, the ones who have had negative dealings seem to have really been handed the **** end of the stick .

Re: Attention victims of TigerJapanese.
As much as I hate to bring up old topics, this one deserves it. I was planning on ordering a D15B (regular vtec) from TJ until I found all the bad stuff about them, so I ended up going with Hmotors... The motor got here 5 days early with no prior notice, so I had to rush around to get people to unload it and everything (had it shipped to a friend of mine's business so it was cheaper) then after I got it installed, I found out it had a blown head gasket...
Called them and the guy wouldn't let me get a word in to explain the situation. He told me that they did a compression test before they shipped it and got 185 across the board. My test gave me (from 1 to 4) 200-200-185-150... They wanted me to send the motor back, but I needed it for school and didn't have time to pull it back out, ship it back, wait for their reply, then get something back and put it in again, so I just bought a new head gasket for it... So in the end, I'm not to pleased with HMO. Just adding this to say that HMO isn't fool proof like this tread is making it out to seem.

Re: Attention victims of TigerJapanese.
jesus, here is my end of the story,I am a sales rep for Volvo & CAT construction machines in our family owned business/dealership.
throughout the years I have learned one thing and this is after dealing with several and I mean 100's of companies for motors, spare parts etc.
either buy from a local shop or dont buy at all!
you can bring along a simple comp tester, visually look for things missing, hold the shop responsible and put your fist in his face if he is local if not then your gambling and with all that cash is in the hands of a person you dont know!

Re: Attention victims of TigerJapanese.
So they wanted you to ship it back on your dime, when the motor was screwed when it left their warehouse...that's what Tiger Japanese tried doing to me near the end of our little war, except they didn't want me paying for my own shipping...they wanted me to send them almost $400 and they'll have it picked up, screw that!
What bothers me is how they TOLD you it passed inspection. Sorry, unless your business is perfect in every way and your employees make absolutely no mistakes...you need to respect your customers a little more instead of acting like they're all out to screw your company.
What they *SHOULD* do is this...a customer buys a motor+shipping, he/she receives it and says it's messed up, the company ships it back to the warehouse on their dime to inspect/test it. If it's bad, they send the customer a replacement for no extra cost. If nothing is wrong with the motor, they ship it back on the customer's dime OR refund the customer's money...taking out however much it cost to have that motor shipped back to the company. This system works for the customer in the right, and punishes the customer in the wrong.
Oh...update on the whole TJ thing. I never did hear from them again, I filed reports wherever I could file them, even within the court system up in Toronto. Wasn't much else I could do, so it's pretty much over. They ran off with my $800+/- and I got stuck with a motor I didn't want. All I can do is learn from it.

Re: Attention victims of TigerJapanese.
Seems like so many companies are turning shady these days...
Oh well, at least there are still quite a few good ones, I'll be spreading the word about Tiger Japanese. Appreciate the heads up.

Re: Attention victims of TigerJapanese.
all jdm importers sell used engines. they buy them by the crate and just sell em off. as long as it isn't a tiger type outfit i'm not sure one place is really better than the other.

Re: Attention victims of TigerJapanese.
there are SO many jdm importers, i can think of ten right off the top of my head. after reading what i have, i personally wouldn't speak to tiger but their are places with great prices and quality service. a friend of mine just bought a 96 itr motor in seattle from one for $2400 out the door. steve at hmo while running an honest business prices some of his engines outside market prices. gsr engines sell around value but itr engines are overpriced.
