Default WARNING FOR PAYPAL USERS

I highly suggest you do not use paypal to make ANY transactions. Its more unsafe then you think and are falsly lead to believe just because they charge you money for service, you will get your money back.

I never had problems with paypal after over 100 transactions (buying/selling) from here and ebay.
Can you clarify on why is it unsafe besides the rip off from shady sellers?
Sending a money order or check from a shady seller is just as unsafe.

you atleast have an address to go after should they scam you.

paypal = who knows what
This is true, but an address halfway accross the country is gonna do you squat. Atleast if someone is paypal Verified, its a little more reassuring, but there are no guarantees with any online deals.

Would you please elaborate ...coming onto a message board and saying "PayPal is bad" is not good enough. Please give us the details of why you even started this thread.

You might want to try tradenable.com, they insure the transaction and the whole process goes very smoothly. And both the buyer and seller are protected. It does cost 4% if you use a CC though.

Dear PayPal User,

PayPal has concluded the investigation of your Buyer Complaint. As our
policy states, we conducted this investigation on a best effort basis and
made no guarantee of funds recovery.

Case ID: 142045
Transaction Amount: $200.00
Transaction Date: 7/5/2001
Seller's Email: jgarcia5@san.rr.com
Seller's Name: Luis Garcia

Our investigation has revealed that the seller is at fault, as a result you
are due a refund. However, we regret to inform you that we were unable to
recover funds from the sellers account, as the seller's account balance is
$0. If this transaction occurred on an auction site, we encourage you to
contact that auction site, as they may provide you with insurance coverage.

We value your business and regret that you have had this experience. To
avoid similar experiences in the future, we recommend that you read our
Security Tips on our website located at:

The only problem w/paypal is that there really isnt any customer service. I have used paypal numerous times, and of course we all run into problems. If you do get scammed, write a letter to your credit card company. I have said that so many times, and no one listens.

You're only telling half the story.

There is a difference between a paypal account that withdraws funds directly from your bank account, and a paypal account that uses a credit card.

If you use the credit card version, you're safe because you can always contest the charge with your credit card company. That's not something you want to do often, but when you need it, it's there.

Doesn't even have to be a credit card...as long as your debit card has a VISA logo on it, you're straight to take it to them.

there's an extra fee invloved though, if you pay right out of your bank account... i guess it's worth it though

Yeah, you have to look at the positives and the negatives. I've been using this since it first started and have only had one bad experience (knock on wood). It was cleared up and I got my money so not a big deal. For some reason, they were actually helpful.
I always say, to each his own.

i have used paypal numerous times and never had any kind of problem with them. the one thing to keep in mind is that they can't play the role of a policeman if someone had ripped you off.
and like someone said, the best method is to pay with your CC instead of direct transfer from your bank account. this way you can always dispute the charges if you do get screwed.
