Time to replace the Victoracers...
I'm looking to replace my victoracers on my ITR. I've been running 225/50 in front, 205/50 in rear and been happy for HPDE's and autocross.
I had the BFG G-Force before, I went through them really quickly (probably driving style!) so I probably won't get them again. Hoosiers are kinda expensive and I've heard they don't wear friendly.
Victoracers aren't in stock at Tire Rack.
I might try looking at Discount Tire too.
I saw a thread about the Avon tires, anyone using them yet? How well do they stick/wear?
So I guess I'm down to Kuhmo Ecsta V700, Victoracer if I can find them, or the Avon tires.
Also, should I ditch the 225's in front?
Thanks,
Chris

Stay away from the Ecsta V700...they suck *****.
Discount has always been able to get Victos for me; give tham a shot. My local store matches TireRack's pricing, as well...

I figured you would have recommended the victoracers you have for sale in your sig
Proxes RA-1, eh? I hadn't considered those. How do they compare with the victoracers in terms of wear and grip?
Thanks .RJ.

the RA-1's wont be as sticky for autocross use (need a bit of heat to get them warmed up) but will wear much better for track use.
Another good choice is the hard compound Yok A032's but they are $$$ new

Is that the technical term for that? I didn't notice that on the Tirerack website

I ran those for an auto-X while on a different car. Those tires are LOUD when they have full tread depth.
Not very sticky for autoX... but that's not my primary concern anymore. Yeah, they're a little expensive too. Hmm!

If you wanted something that sticks well for autox and is reasonably durable on track I think the Victos are a good choice - and they're relatively cheap.
I used 225/45-15 Avon Tech R's at MidOhio. They are way stickier then the RA-1's and take more heat before they go crappy. I haven't been on anything except RA-1's tho for a year and a half so I can't compare to Victoracers.

Then you haven't gone through the customer reviews for them.
Not a very popular track tire it seems.
The Victos would seem to be a good choice, but I've been told that Kumho is way backordered and Tire Rack wont have any new ones for quite awhile.
I heard the Avons are a good tire but do not work well on camber-challenged cars, so keep that in mind.

How do you think these tyres will wear?
How do you think these tyres will wear?
I got a set of Hoosier Spec Miata R3S04's in 205/50/15 this year. So far they have worked well on track. I have not tried autocross on them. They are supposed to be a harder version of the tire. They are a bit cheaper too. Tire Rack will not admit to having ever heard of them. I got mine through Phil's Tire Service. I only have a few days at Watkins Glen with them but the wear was fairly light. Probably more wear than the Victors but not way more and really good grip and overall feel.

Victo is the cheapest
RA - 1 & A032 R are about the same cost wise, but the RA1 is the quicker of the two; the A032R, however, will last longer.

How much camber are running?
What was the wear like, and based on your experience, how many events could you see these tire weathering?

I sell the Toyo RA1. 205/50-15 shaved to 4/32 are $139.95 ea. These will outlast any other R compound tire. These are the perfect tire for track days. Hoosiers and Kuhmo's are stickier for autocross in the "A" compound. But for track days the Toyo will last 3-4 times longer.
As for the comment on the Hoosieer SM compound, fortunately for me, The Tire Rack is not allowed to sell that tire. Only dealers who provide Trackside service are allowed. So, they may not know what they are, but more than likely they are just trying to sell the regular R3S04 compound which is about $35 more than the SM compound. The RA1 still outlasts the SM compound as well.
One other word, the Avon Tech R is an Autocross tire ONLY! We ran test with them agains the Hoosier and they were complete toast, cords and wires showing in 10 laps. That is why there is no speed rating on them as well.
One last word on the RA1, as it wears and gets "balder" it gets faster without getting greasy. So even if you choose to not shave the tire, over time the tire will get faster. Try that with any other brand.
