Vesa Siligren (sp?) is an ITC racer who makes a nice billet one. I thought Catch 22 posted up about it but I can't find it now. It's a nice piece, makes nice stable video. I've heard Vesa lurks on here so maybe he'll see this.
Now back on topic (I like this thread a lot and I'm waiting on a build)...it appears we will soon count this laptop among the list of things that don't work. Hard drive making disturbing squealing noise. Not good. More things...
- Incredibly cheap Harbor Freight box end wrenches. Two 14mm ones were different.
- The fastners holding together Ford Excursions. Mix of SAE and metric =
- Harbor Freight Creeper. Just after pinching your arm between it and the wheel, the wheel falls off.
- Cheap kitchen knives
- "Garden Splitters"
- Foam insulation around PVC pipes to prevent freezing/cracking
- A lot of the attachments that came with my dremel don't work
- Super cheap air tools
- Black and Decker plastic sawhorse thing
Now some things that do work:
- Diesel powered Ford Excursions
- RoadRaceGear.com splitter and air dam
- SPSS valved Koni shocks
- Catch 22's ITC car
- I SAY EH's Radical Prosport
- Ridgid 6.5HP shopvac/blower combo
- Genie garage door openers
- Hitachi 4.5" disc grinder
See? I have stuff that works. The pattern here, to me, seems to be if it is fairly new, and was expensive, it is far more likely to work.

Vesa makes them himself in his shop. A very fine piece and reasonably priced.
The video is much better than my old I/O port (which I sold).
My new problem is that my camera doesn't like the pitch of my new car between 5000 and 6500 rpms. Lots of tape and a piece of foam on the mic have improved the problem greatly, but its still not crystal clear.
The in car tapes from Vesa's own car are TV quality clear most of the time. Some samples are posted on his website.

Oh, that boat works.
Its just works at a very deliberate pace.
History has demonstrated that it takes that boat about 4 months to cross the pacific. I'm thinking one reason Toyo can sell cheaper than Hoosier is the money they save on deisel. That boat is apparently equipped with sails. Small ones.
Hopefully these tires are on a new fangled, faster boat.
I wouldn't bet the rent money on it, but one can always hope.

It actually sounds like steam leaking from a steam line, with the pitch changing with hard drive activity.
I did hear an anecdote today that my own company posted a .wav file of "what your hard drive should sound like" on its website, because so many people thought theirs were broken.
Still more stuff that doesn't work:
- wireless keyboards and mouses for gaming
- Auto parts warehouses driveaxles
Littermaid cat litter boxes after about a year

Your pipes froze in NC? That sucks.
After seeing Jason's freeze last winter, it got me thinking about whether mine would do that. I got looking at my house... amazingly enough, I have NO pipes on the outside walls of my house. None. I'm astonished. Guess they knew what they were doing when they built houses 85 years ago in New England.
On the other hand, with all the rain we've had this morning, my roof has come down with another leak. Roofer is coming tomorrow.
Trying to think of what else is busted at the moment, and nothing comes immediately to mind.

I think as Travis said, it's ridiculously cheap and they are only 20-25 minutes from my house and I think I keep thinking I will find something that won't break or maybe I'll find something the 4th try that won't.
As opposed to spending a shitload of money on a good product the first time. Plus every 10th time I go there I get something that stands up to the value and it's like out of all the garbage they sell, there's just enough good products to keep people buying.
That or mind control in the daily e-mails I get from them.

I have an HF jack that has been trouble free for 3 years other than a broken clip. I actually do PM on it. Bleed it, keep the fluid fresh, and do a regular nut and bolt check. So far so good.
Otherwise... Craftsman. Nothing but Craftsman.
No problems. Ever. I've broken one ratchet in the 20 years I've been buying these tools, and they replaced it with a new one without a question. My dad still has tools his father bought, and I expect I'll get them one day (sounds like an AJ Foyt commercial, but its true).
Its just not worth it to me to deal with the cheap crap. If I could afford Snap-On, I'd be buying that. The last thing I need when I'm laying on my back in the sandy VIR paddock is a broken cheap-*** ******' tool in my hand.
THAT will make me say bad words and throw things.

Only Craftsman ratchet I ever broke was because I threw it on the floor in a fit of rage workiing on the Integra. Their torque wrenches are another matter. My like $90 craftsman torque wrench lasted less than a year. The flimsy plastic adjuster thing crapped out, then the actual ratcheting mechanism let go. Junk.
Harbor Freight actually makes a pretty good torque wrench for like $20. It appears to be all metal, and when I've checked against costlier ones, it's accurate. One of the few HF things I've been quite pleased with.
As to the tire boat...several threads ago I said this...
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by krshultz »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Sigh...it's the same thing. Every time. In my very humble opinion, the pattern has been established for some time now.</TD></TR></TABLE>
Now I think it's somebody who claims to know somebody at Toyo promises availablilty, but the people who actually do business with Toyo have never heard of such a thing.
