Tarmac rally, Setup?
Im looking for input for what type of setup i should go with on my Integra. Currently im using TEIN SS but I feel that its not quite right for the type of racing im doing. Here is a link to a couple of vids of us competing last year in the Targa Newfoundland:
http://videos.streetfire.net/v...4.htm
http://videos.streetfire.net/v...1.htm
I think our setup may be a little too stiff but I want to hear what others have to say. The spring rates in the Tein SS are 448 Front and 336 rear.
Specs from Tein: http://www.tein.com/tech_info/h96.html
What would be the best damper and spring for this type of racing? Should I be looking at the Teing Gravel setup of perhaps a kit from PIC. Maybe Eibach? Opinions.....

I know that i wouldn't recommend them for this type of racing thats for sure. I can't seem to get enough ride height from them... car is always slammed.

Your spring rates themselves are not THAT stiff, especially the front. My feeling is that over the large bumps you may be bottoming out. I'm not sure how much shock travel you have, but it might be worth some closer attention. Furthermore, I have a feeling some of the undue harshness may be coming from the valving of the shock itself.
Its a bit late over here, and I'll try to get back to this topic, so I wont make any hasty recommendations. But my initial thoughts are that you need to increase ride height, and sort out the valving. As for springs, you *may* wish to go softer, but I dont know that I would personally. If you do go softer, again, watch the ride height and keep shock travel under control.
What tires are you running?

Re: Tarmac rally, Setup? (Premium Dude)
well the problem with the ride height is that the strut is max'd out but the car is still so low. I can continue to bring up the coils but all this is doing is bunching the spring.. Currently I am running BFGoodrich KDWs 205/45R17 which is big in the wheel well. So big that I had to remove all the damaged Inner fenders. If I go with much lower profile then I am afraid that we will begin to break rims on the harsh pot holes. Next year we plan to be running the Toyo R888 in size 205/40R17 and see how it goes.
As for valving on the strut i adjusted them to max stiffness before the race because i didn't want to bottom out the car. I never find much of a difference when adjusting the dampers though....

Teins are worse than pogo sticks!
For rally you dont want springs too stiff but you will need firm dampers.
What's you budget for suspension? You can buy exactly what you need and you wont have to reinvent the wheel when it comes to rally suspension but it depends on budget.
Anyways, if you're looking for good rally suspensions (with decent travel) look no further than;
Proflex (best)
DMS (decen)
Beilstein (good & cheap)
Hobits (okay & cheap)
Either way you're looking to spend about $2000 for the Billies and Hotbits and a set of Proflex is £1800 plus shipping from the UK or Ireland.

Re: Tarmac rally, Setup? (FerreiraCompetitions)
Thanks Ferreira. I was just talking to Peter at Hotbits and they make kits just for the type of racing im doing. They also have a couple of cars that have competed in the Targa Newfoundland using their suspension. Great tip. Thanks
